Blood Libel Meaning

Sarah Palin put out a Facebook statement regarding the horrific events in Arizona and the death of far too many innocent people at the hands of a madman at Congress woman Giffords gathering. Having actually read the whole speech from Sarah Palin I honestly have to say that I think she was actually right on message. And this opinion is from a true blue blood Democrat.

Vigorous and spirited public debates during elections are among our most cherished traditions. And after the election, we shake hands and get back to work, and often both sides find common ground back in D.C. and elsewhere. If you don’t like a person’s vision for the country, you’re free to debate that vision. If you don’t like their ideas, you’re free to propose better ideas. But, especially within hours of a tragedy unfolding, journalists and pundits should not manufacture a blood libel that serves only to incite the very hatred and violence they purport to condemn. That is reprehensible. – Facebook

We live in a time when politics and the debate of just life in America is very harsh and cold. Political pundits with a microphone or television show will spin it to blame an opposing political party for the actions of a madman simply because they can. The pay for such so called political valor is high. I have to say that I have followed Sarah Palin online to see what she has to say and she used the term “Blood Libel” appropriately to describe the idiots behind the microphones. I believe that would be a “bitch slap” to Rush Limbaugh from the former Vice President Candidate from Alaska. She wasn’t looking to hurt anyone with the statement other than tell the shock jocks to shut the hell up.

Even Alan Dershowitz, the Harvard Law Proffesor agrees with me...

The term “blood libel” has taken on a broad metaphorical meaning in public discourse. Although its historical origins were in theologically based false accusations against the Jews and the Jewish People, its current usage is far broader. I myself have used it to describe false accusations against the State of Israel by the Goldstone Report. There is nothing improper and certainly nothing anti-Semitic in Sarah Palin using the term to characterize what she reasonably believes are false accusations that her words or images may have caused a mentally disturbed individual to kill and maim. The fact that two of the victims are Jewish is utterly irrelevant to the propriety of using this widely used term. – Big Government

Sarah Palin said nothing that was offensive unless you speak a language that is lost to the ages. Now I have to go throw up for defending her speech. I hope that she never has a more clear and to the point speech ever again.

Limbaugh Leaving US on Healthcare Passage

Some websites are reporting that good old Rush Limbaugh today on his radio program has pledged to leave the country if health care passes. I couldn't make it up if I wanted too!

Tomorrows headline across every liberal news organization will be the 1-800 hotline number you can call to send every extra penny you have as a donation for every Democrat in the House and Senate election campaign. What better reason could there be to donate to the DNC if they can get Rush Limbaugh to leave the country?

His words "I don't know. I'll just tell you this, if this passes and it's five years from now and all that stuff gets implemented -- I am leaving the country. I'll go to Costa Rica."

Roll the audio below courtesy of Media Matters...

It might have been taken out of context but we can dream can't we?

Living Will or Advance Directive

One of the biggest issues that is coming under fire with the proposed healthcare reform legislation is the living will or advance directive for all citizens of the United States. Mind you, this has been backed by the US Government for twenty plus years and surprisingly by many folks on the right side of the political spectrum.

Currently, we have Rush Limbaugh of EIB fame ranting on and on against “Death Panels” which is how he defines a living will or advance directive. Then we have Newt Gingrich declaring that Americans will be euthanized because some states allow it. And then there is former Governor Sarah Palin going on her soap box to declare that “Death Panels” will ration medicine or kill Grammy and Grandpa.

What makes no sense is that each one of these same folks was for it before it became part of the discussion to fix America’s healthcare system. Each one of them is pulling a John Kerry “I was for it before I was against it” sort of move.

Where you have a living will to give medical directions aka advance directions on steps to be taken to care for you in your last days on this earth. Things like, don’t feed me through a tube, don’t let machines keep me alive, and by all means, do not resuscitate (DNR) if you go into cardiac arrest.

Check out the “I was for it before I was against it” video from MSNBC and Rachel Maddow…

Video Link

It’s very interesting how quickly politics plays into this healthcare issue. I can understand Rush Limbaugh flipping opinion for a dollar but you know that Gingrich and Palin are towing party politics to stir up the base even though they were “For It before they were against It”.

GOP Leadership Confusion

I have to agree with Newt Gingrich that political power comes in cycles and the Republican Party is out of favor right now. What is really fun to watch is the entire GOP going after one another trying to decide where the hell the political party should stand before the 2010 elections. It’s like watching one neighbor toss the leaves over the others fence only to have the same process reversed just a few hours later. Rush Limbaugh wants to throw everyone out of the party that does not boot step to his demands and Newt Gingrich who has no official political connection to the RNC is going around demanding that Speaker Pelosi step down just because he says so. Then you have RNC Chairman Michael Steele telling everyone to cool it before they all screw up the smoke and mirrors deal he is trying to build. Nobody is in charge and that is a good thing for those of us that tend to back President Obama.

End result is Newt is pissed because he can’t do the Michael Jackson moonwalk dance step and Rush is even more pissed because he can’t find a pair of Jordache jeans that will fit his fat ass. No offense intended to Republican or Democrat voters with good living voluptuous curves in the buttocks region of your bodies. You earned every bit of it and you should be proud that “baby got back”. Feel free to steal that phrase Mr. Steele.

Up out of all the fuss comes some common sense amongst the GOP when it comes to confirming Judge Sotomayor to the Supreme Court. Sen. John Cornyn is pissed that Newt and Rush are intent on destroying his political party. And he doesn’t like the attack mode they are aggressively engaged in…

Top Republican calls Limbaugh, Gingrich comments 'terrible'
Posted: 11:23 AM ET

From CNN Ticker Producer Alexander Mooney

Cornyn on Thursday said statements calling Sotomayor a racist are 'terrible.'
(CNN) — A top Senate Republican is taking aim at recent statements from conservative commentators Rush Limbaugh and Newt Gingrich suggesting Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor is a "racist."

"I think it's terrible," Sen. John Cornyn, the chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, told NPR's "All Things Considered" Thursday. "This is not the kind of tone any of us want to set when it comes to performing our constitutional responsibilities of advise and consent.”

Both the popular radio host and former GOP House Speaker have suggested Obama's pick for the high court is a racist while referencing a 2001 speech at Berkeley during which Sotomayor said, "I would hope that a wise Latina woman, with the richness of her experiences, would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life."
- CNN

Good for Senator Cornyn and I hope he can come to the pulpit and actually make some sense over at the Republican Party. Somebody has to take the helm because they are going the way of the Dodo bird right now. How many moderate Republican’s is Rush Limbaugh going to toss out of his holier than thou political party before somebody tosses his ass to the curb? As for the Newt aka porno king and former Speaker of the House, he’s just selling his latest book and any media attention for him equals sales of his book. Ergo, he is so staunch in his political opinions that he even went on Jon Stewart and the Daily show this week to sell even more copies of his book.

For now, 2010 and the election of yet another new Congress is looking damn good for those of us on the left side of the aisle.

Limbaugh Smack Down on MSNBC

One has to give Rush Limbaugh props for being a great entertainer when it comes to talking politics. In the same respect you have to think that his logic on calling MSNBC on the carpet recently an idiotic move. Rush’s latest logical thought on loan from God (His words and not mine) is that MSNBC couldn’t survive for thirty days without mentioning his name? MSNBC couldn't survive if it were not for the sweat they piggy back off of his royal high and mightyness, Rush Limbaugh. For the record, I don’t think Rush’s thought on this topic was on loan from God as it was more self preserving under the microscope of all the media in the nation. You can’t plant yourself in the chair as the one and only spokesman for the GOP and not get some media attention. It's a hot seat Rush, ya want it then it comes with some serious heat. No charge buddy. This is actually a heating bill that some of us don't really mind paying.

Keith Olbermann has a few unkind thoughts for Mr. Limbaugh and his message that MSNBC needs to only talk about Rush on a daily basis to get ratings. And I was watching Countdown all this time for all the topics that didn't include Rush Limbaugh...

Video Link

I have to think about Rush Limbaugh’s request to be left alone by MSNBC. Then again, no I don't. Rush can say whatever he wants and MSNBC isn’t supposed to report it? That isn’t going to happen Rush. Sorry. Talk to Fox News and maybe they might honor your request. I understand they are a little bit more accomodating to ya over there.

Jesse Ventura Calls Cheney a Coward

If you read the title of this post I’d just like to say Amen to former Governor Ventura’s description of former Vice President Cheney. Unlike Cheney, Ventura had to train under stress and was water boarded as part of his Navy SEAL training. Jesse Ventura knows what torture is because he went through it. He experienced it, he lived it. Water boarding is torture and Governor Ventura would prosecute everyone involved with it, authorized it, and passed it. Torture is illegal and the Governor has some interesting points. Specifically, that former Vice President Dick Cheney had five deferments during the draft and that Rush Limbaugh that is forever waiving the flag on the political right never served in our nations military. Governor Ventura calls them both Chicken Hawks.

Mind you, as a moderate Liberal I don’t see a single Republican out there that could touch President Obama in the next election but the former Governor of Minnesota as an Independent certainly could. Mind you this is a fairly long video of the Governor on Larry King but it is a must see for those of you on the cutting edge of tomorrows political issues. First he calls Cheney more or less an ass and coward in defense of Colin Powell, Rush Limbaugh is a coward too according to the Governor. Then he calls the drug war a farce in line with prohibition strengthening underworld black markets and mobsters, then he calls the Cuban trade embargo a joke and idiotic and lacking all common sense. Kick me in the butt, I like this guys thinking!

Check out this CNN video of Governor Ventura on Larry King…

Video Link

Governor Ventura has no immediate plans to run for any political office but I’m pretty sure that he could make for one hell of a political candidate on the national stage if he so choose so. He sure as hell would make the daily coverage colorful in the press.

Surf on Governor! And by all means stay by the phone for the call to be our first Ambassador to Cuba when President Obama works that mess out.

Cheney Disses Colin Powell

A friend once told me that you need to watch out for people that could turn on you when things get rough. Dick Cheney, the former Vice President turned on former military leader, former Secretary of State, and former confidant of the White House, Colin Powell. Politically, Cheney would go to bat for Rush Limbaugh first over Colin Powell, the same Rush Limbaugh who never served in our nations military, never held a public office, and would bite the hand that feeds him if it works for his entertainment talk radio network. Um, Mr. former Vice President, you just slapped every man and woman that served in our armed forces upside the head? One has to wonder how Cheney thinks, decorated military and life long public servant versus a blow hard aleged addict of prescription drugs. Cheney still goes for the aleged drug addict?

Video Link

Need I mention that Dick Cheney never served in our nations military but condoned tactics that could be used against our own troops if torture is justified? And it was under his watch! It only takes a swipe of a pen and a signature to authorize anything in defense of America but the consequences of thinking that you are right just because you say you are is way off of the foundation of what our nation was and is built on. Thank God that nothing ever happened to President Bush where Cheney would have moved up the ladder. Cheney would have nuked all of Iraq in a heart beat even though our troops were stationed there. His logic for doing so would be for the betterment of democracy, as long as you don’t agree with his definition of it.

Walk over to this side of the aisle Colin Powell, you get a hug and a way to go for being an American that believes we have a moral obligation to humanity.

Limbaugh Listeners Revolt

The ditto heads of Limbaugh’s EIB network are fed up and Rush pretty much insists that you are ignorant if you as a Republican believe that torture is okay. Even if you are a former soldier, marine, or past member of any part of the military. According to Rush, people that think that torture is wrong have no place in “His” Republican Party. And in Rush’s mind, people in the middle of the political stratosphere that do not follow the Rush Almighty Republican philosophy are to blame for President Obama being elected.

Let me just say this, I think I know now what the Democrats are doing with the money they had previously appropriated for liberal blogger advertising, they gave it all to Rush Limbaugh. I’m loving this!!! Over at Countdown with Keith Olbermann they have this great piece…

Video Link

How classic is this for Democrats? The global warming “Phenomenon” has finally reached the EIB and the meltdown of Rush has begun. Here is Rush Limbaugh being called out by a former Marine radio broadcast listener and blamed for the downfall of the Republican Party. What I find truly funny is that all that the esteemed brain on lone from God shock jock could do was to attack the listener rather than offer a clear well thought out rebuttal. Then again isn’t that typical of the Ditto Heads, if you don’t agree with them, then you are Un-American and unclean.

Getting back to the caller and the torture issue, the caller holds the higher ground as far as being against torture and let me tell you why. The caller, a former US Marine and Army service member put his life in danger and the possibility of being tortured actually existed if he was captured in a hostile situation. Rush Limbaugh’s only chance of that happening is if he spills his coffee at the drive up because he never served in the military.

I’m loving it, the more Rush talks, the better it is for those of us with left leaning political thoughts. Some of which just happen to be fed up life long Republicans. Come on over to the left folks, take your shoes off and relax. We are not the big scary monsters that Rush told you we were. Group hug!

Democrat Genius and Limbaugh

Is there a better poster child for the GOP than Rush Limbaugh? Granted Mr. Rush has earned his microphone but he had done so on the backs of millions of listeners that listen to a pontificating liar. Rush Limbaugh is forever talking about tax cuts and doom and gloom if business owners don’t get the breaks they need to stay in business. That is all fine and good but what about the people working in those same businesses, for that business owner. Trust me, those tax breaks don’t trickle down when the business owner has a yacht payment, a jet payment, a plethora of houses to support with all the staff they require. Wages do not trickle down in business when one person can benefit more. Wait for the yearly minimum wage increase and be happy that you have a damn job you worthless piece of human existence. If I could translate that into Republicanism it would be "The company isn't doing well, we are facing fierce competition, we are cutting costs wherever we can. At this time we can only offer a ten cent an hour increase but next year we should be able to do better."

In the mind of Rush, workers should be silent like woman should be in his home. Don’t speak until you are spoken to and submit to his almighty will. Ergo his current marital status. Thou shall not rise up and think your life is worth more and can be more. You will cut his lawn, do his laundry, and clean his house because you are grateful that he is all knowing and powerful. Picture yourself married to this idiot and think how miserable your life would be if his world was actually the real world? He’s an idiot with a microphone and if the GOP loves him, they can have him!

I have to give credit to the DNC or the White House for pointing out what a scumbag Rush Limbaugh really is. He isn’t a true friend to anyone that works for a living, works hard and honestly pays the cost to live. His agenda is to keep your wages low, the owner of companies profits high, and his political extremist base content. People need to look at what he says but what is actually the truth. Rush has his millions and the best way for him to make sure that you don’t get part of his millions is to keep you suppressed.

Rush is a good candidate for the GOP poster boy and spokesman and over in the moderate to liberal side of the aisle we don’t mind picking up twenty or more seats in the house and maybe five or six seats in the senate in the next election. Umm…

Never mind everything I said above…

Rush is good! Rush is great! Rush is good! Rush is great!

Oh, what the hell…

GOP Fear Tactics and Memory Recall

Not that long ago there was an election for President where fear was used as a wedge tool just because one mans skin color was predominant in the Republican campaign for the White House. All of the talking heads were talking about lynching not only the Democrat candidate for President but also his wife. GOP political rallies were loaded with people more interested in hanging a candidate for President than actually listening to what he had to say. Hate was predominant in the rallies and the only political party guilty of using the word “Nigger” was the people attending a GOP rally for one Republican candidate for President. Is that the party you would really want to follow for a lifetime? Do you recall that thought process that the GOP played out over and over again. I could post twenty or more You Tube videos on the topic but I think this one sums it up pretty much from MSNBC and Keith Olbermann…

Video Link

The GOP has been going out of its way to court the minority voters of this nation but they simply can not get past the color of their own skin. They are so lily white Anglo Saxon Protestant that they foresee that America is and should be the land of Hitler and Stalin where no dissent of the party politic is allowed.

This is not an issue to laugh at or think lightly of. Republicans are so upset that they are forcing to the foreground issues that they can not even defend politically. Spokesman of the party are ranting non stop that President Obama is evil for our nation and that his path to recovery is madness. The undoing of America from decades long gone by. Can we not put two and two together that the GOP is begging for anarchist to act up and attack our President if not personally but physically? Limbaugh and his like are actually firing up the minimum percent of the people to actually give harm to our new President and I don’t think for a minute that it is funny. We are still in a state of War and Rush Limbaugh is walking the fine rope of treason against the President.

Limbaugh and his like are rising up the right and all it takes is one nut job listener to repeat the idiocy of the past. I honestly fear for President Obama and his families safety. I pray they will be safe. Our nation needs him now more than ever. Many do not think the way I do though…

Video Link

I wish my President good health just as I did George W. Bush but I’m not to sure the folks on the right side of the aisle think the same way. Scary.

President Obama is calling many men in powerful positions to task and that is a path that needs to be very carefully traveled. In such people he risks raising enemies that even the people that need him most have deaf ears when the almighty dollar is at risk in profit. Greed is the ultimate factor and the GOP is full of it. How many homes does John McCain own? He will get back to us on that.

GOP Lies About Fiscal Responsibility

Hello Papamoka Readers! I've been listening to the Republicans rant for weeks now about how President Obama and the Democrats want to pass a huge "spending bill" filled with pork. They've been out there screaming to everybody and anybody about how they're the party of fiscal responsibility, and how the Democrats are socialists who wish to "tax and spend" America into oblivion.

All I can say is that whoever believes their BS is about as dumb as a box of rocks, because none of it holds up to scrutiny. It's a fat load of Rush Limbaugh generated CRAP!

I read the legislation and determined that aside from a few minor provisions where I disagree with the leadership, the bill is designed to create new markets and good jobs. There is no doubt, IT'S A JOB'S BILL. It is a good bill that is needed to spur the economy.

The ranting is nothing but Republican Party politics designed to distract the American people. I've grown more cynical with time, and now believe most Republicans care less about the middle-class. Most only care about lower taxes. Unfortunately, and they know it based on their own track record, lower taxes do not necessarily create good jobs, and without a doubt lower taxes CREATE MORE DEBT!

So, what about the debt? Let's ask ourselves a critical question: who actually created the bulk of the national debt? WOW, are you aware THE REPUBLICANS CREATED MOST OF THE NATIONAL DEBT! It's true, the party that claims to be fiscally responsible is responsible for the vast majority of the national debt! How else do you think they keep those taxes low? It all started when the Republicans took power under Reagan in the eighties complaining about Carter's poor economic performance (which was unfortunately true) and the national debt.

"For decades we have piled deficit upon deficit, mortgaging our future and our children's future for the temporary convenience of the present. To continue this long trend is to guarantee tremendous social, cultural, political, and economic upheavals. You and I, as individuals, can, by borrowing, live beyond our means, but only for a limited period of time. Why, then, should we think that collectively, as a nation, we're not bound by that same limitation? We must act today in order to preserve tomorrow. And let there be no misunderstanding: We are going to begin to act, beginning today." President Reagan's inaugural, January 20, 1981.

WOW! Reagan had it right way back in 1981! No wonder so many people supported him. Unfortunately, he lied like most Republicans. He got into office and proceeded to spend MORE THAN ANY PRESIDENT (except the Bush boys) and the debt mushroomed going from less than a trillion in 1980 to around $2.6 trillion when he left office. It's ironic how the Republicans still praise the Reagan tax cuts and Reagan's embrace of "supply-side" economics. The praise is undeserved. It's also stunning the way they always ignore his debt spending.

Most of the problems we face today are a result of that Republican fantasy known today as the "Reagan revolution." It turns out the American president credited for reigniting American patriotism burned down a lot of things in the process.

The debt continued to skyrocket for 12 years through Bush senior. Clinton reversed it at a peak of 67% (of GDP). Of course, as we all know now, our favorite frat boy moron, Bush junior, crossed that line again on September 22nd and hit 69% on September 30th last year. What a wonderful parting gift he left us. That's the highest it's been since 1955, and that was just after World War II ended and the country was heavy with war bond debt. See the chart below to get a clearer picture.

It is a FACT that all presidents since Truman have reduced the national debt EXCEPT for the Republican Party's favorite fiscal conservatives, President REAGAN and THE BUSH BOYS. They are responsible for $10 TRILLION IN DEBT, adding an additional TRILLION this past year alone to top it off near $11 TRILLION!

Why are Democrats listening to these idiots! THEY HAVE NO CREDIBILITY! Their track record is the WORST IN US HISTORY! The chart below is a good illustration of just how much damage Republicans have done since the end of World War II. If you want to see just how bad it is in clock form, I recommend a visit to the debt clock.

Face it, Republicans love to lie. They talk out of two sides of their mouths all the time. They like to act as though they're the party of fiscal responsibility, but the facts show that they're the PARTY OF DEBT. The Democrats need to get smarter and start talking about it more. They call us the "tax and spend" party, so let's call them the "party of debt." GET CREATIVE PEOPLE! Democrats need to discredit the Republicans using FACTS so that people stop listening to them.

Yes, the Republicans get me angry. They are disingenuous. They're all smoke and mirrors. They're screaming "socialism" and "communism" (that's Glen Beck's current rant) to rally their troops against the "job's bill," and no Democrat is bothering to point out their hypocrisy. It's a fact that George Bush pushed through tens of BILLIONS on "socialism" spending after we were attacked on 9/11, and the Democratic Party - being the true patriotic party - supported Republican efforts to jump start the economy. Nobody's talking about how that bipartisan legislation helped the economy recover.

The Democrats keep missing good opportunities to make the Republicans look like the narrow-minded screw-ups they are today. The Democrats also supported the banking bailout. It turned into another Bush fiasco, but still the Democrats tried to help the economy. Where's their support of us? It's clear they have two minds, and neither represents the best interest of the nation.

Another example of their deceit was mentioned earlier; Republicans LOVE TAX CUTS. Unfortunately, they don't like to talk about how tax cuts create debt. It's proven, in reality, TAX CUTS ARE DEBT MACHINES! Again, the GOP is FULL OF BS! It's not just me, it's clear that younger people in America are starting to get angry. They voted for Obama en masse because many feel cheated by the older "debt happy" generations. Their future is being mortgaged by so-called conservatives hell bent on low taxes. They're being cheated. It's ironic that "family value" Republicans appear to be some of the worst child abusers in history, at least in economic terms.

Republicans are out-of-touch and out-of-control. Their policies are discredited yet they continue to push for them. The Democrats need to stand up for what is right. The Democrats need to fight back hard and start talking to the Republicans like the ignorant, spoiled brats they seem to be. Let's be the party of adults, and force the party of childish rants to stand in the corner until we fix what they broke.

GOP Hastily Calls Economic Crisis the "Obama Recession"

Hello Papamoka Bloggers - I would like us to remember something important, because it might help us keep things in perspective as Obama takes office.

Last Thursday, only two days after the presidential election, I heard a pundit on FOX "News" use the term, the "Obama recession." On the Stephanie Miller Show this morning she pointed out that Rush - the "drug-addled-gas-bag" - Limbaugh used the same term last Friday. I'll bet this is only the beginning.

I think it's reasonable now to assume that the Republican spin machine has started its job of trying to pin the blame for the economic downturn on our new president-elect. I think it's too early. They probably should have waited until he takes office. Oh well, they must know something I don't, or they've screwed-up.

Let's watch to see how much traction they get. Let's see if the term the "Obama Recession" takes hold. If they succeed, they will have once again pulled off one of their classic deceptions. Language is powerful people.

As Thom Hartmann says in his great book Cracking the Code, Republican propaganda turns torture into "enhanced interrogation" and borrowing money from our children and deficit spending into "taxes are evil." The list goes on and on.

It would appear they've set their evil sites on making Bush's bungling into Obama's personal recession. I guess time will tell if it works.

Brilliant Minds are not always on Talk Radio

With all the hype over Rush Limbaugh and his alleged bashing of the troops it makes me wonder why people blindly follow the words of one person. Talk radio hosts, President Bush, Teddy Kennedy, Move On.Org, Michelle Malkin and the list goes on. Somebody else is telling us all how to think, what to think about any issue and who is the enemy amongst us.

It brings me to the conclusion that our leadership system in America is broken because we as a people are so strongly divided down the middle. There are those Americans on the Right and there are those Americans on the Left side of the political aisle. Stuck in the middle is the swing voter but the base on both sides is consistent. What is the common task or sentiment that all of us can agree on that is realistic? Be you Right leaning or Left leaning, what is the one thing that binds us when an event like 9/11 happens? You are an American without a doubt.

Our nation needs a healing President and the need to feel leadership from our government to it’s people is overwhelming. Our nation is in a political crisis where both parties are talking the same game but neither is offering solutions to bring the country and our people back together again. Blame the left, blame the right, blame anyone but it is not my problem is a scapegoat that you do not want to embrace. This is all of our country and the ones that actually participate in our government are the ones that matter.

On the air waves and around the web the swing is against the right side of the aisle because of the non stop excuses and political gamesmanship of Kings from the fifth century. My way or the highway immediately divided the nation. I voted for it before I was against it divides the nation from the left.

We are a divided people and there is not a Roosevelt or Lincoln on the horizon. I frankly do not get a warm fuzzy feeling from any of the current candidates for President because for the most part all of them are saying we have to stay the course. Bush got us into this mess and he has no plans to fix it so it is the next President’s problem to deal with. For the record, no candidate can predict or insist on a timeline for our troops getting out of Iraq or Afghanistan. Reality is funny like that. In the same respect no candidate can tell the people of America that there is a point in time when our troops are no longer needed in Iraq to hold back the terrorist.

My main point to this post is that you as a voter have a say as to whom is going to be the next President of the United States of America. If you need Rush Limbaugh or even a lowly blogger like myself to tell you what party to vote for then you need to look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself what you think. Get rid of the sound bites from both sides of the aisle and think about what America really needs in the next election.

From my perspective, I’m tired of seeing all our kids coming home in body bags and flag draped coffins for a people that have no clue as to what freedom really is. Iraq is lost, Afghanistan is lost. Bring our troops home alive and let’s focus on America once more. Put a strong military presence on our borders and that is defending America at home.

WHAT ABOUT PHONY PATRIOTS?

By Michael Linn Jones

This latest furor over comments made by Rush Limbaugh is like a chord sharply struck. It points out more the growing divide in the nation than anything else. I'm reminded of those days in the 60's, when people were requested to drive with their headlights on if they were for the war, or leave them off if they were against. On those days you could see how divided the country was on Vietnam.

Oddly, though, the nation was not divided on veterans. There was bipartisan support for treating veterans in a way that the rest of the world had never attempted. The "G.I. Bill" at the end of World War II helped provide many with college degrees or training. The medical services of the Veterans Administration were available to any ex-serviceman or woman, provided they were honorably discharged.

Over the decades, the benefits of the G.I Bill shrank. Adjusted for inflation, the amount of funding for schooling is not at the level it was in the 40's and 50's. However, support remained constant for medical services.

That is, until this century. In 2003 the Congress voted funding for the Iraq War. Within minutes it also voted to slash spending for the VA. In print and on the air this can be debated, but the proof of eating, as they say, is in the pudding.

It is a fact that President Bush did not veto the VA cuts. It is also a fact that his administration foresaw a CUT in VA spending for 2008, using the same myopic idiocy that has shown up elsewhere. A cynical view would see this as part of the "starve the beast" strategy whereby the services will become so restrictive that veterans will just give up and go elsewhere. We are reminded of the golden virtues of the "free economy" and how those needing medical attention should have thought of that when they were young, etc.

The end result are those little things that mean a lot. Like diabetics being limited to 50 test strips A YEAR. Like any veteran who attempts to enroll in the VA now must not earn more than $32,000 a year. Oh, and those folks in Afghanistan and Iraq? Well, they get VA coverage for two WHOLE YEARS...for FREE! After that, adios and good luck.

So, if Rush Limbaugh is so deeply and patriotically committed to those in our armed forces, let him prove it. It would be refreshing if he used his golden EIB microphone to blast anyone who has been involved in cutting services to veterans. And I'm sure he can find a good number of Democrats, too.

It is more than extraordinary that today, 63 years after D-Day, one can visit Normandy and find the French folks as thankful now to those Crosses and Stars of David in their neat rows as they were in 1944. And here? Those who serve are forgotten as soon as they return home.

I hate to be like a boil on the butt here, but I would be more impressed with Mr. Limbaugh if he shifted his focus a bit from debating whether the troops support President Bush to how well our government supports those who sacrifice their freedom so that he can enjoy his. I've heard many times Rush's philosophy that makes it clear that the money he earns should not go to the government; that he should be allowed to keep it. It's his, by God, etc.

Could he make an exception in this case? Is it asking too much?

Sadly, it is.

Rush Limbaugh Advertisers

Do you have a son or daughter serving in the United States Military? Do you think that half of them are "Phony Troop's" according to Rush Limbaugh? I do not and neither do many parents and friends that support ALL of our troops. Vote and buy with your dollars by not buying from Rush Limbaugh's advertisers. Yes, I back a full BOYCOTT of his ADVERTISERS! His words, not mine, made this political free speech possible by the deaths of thousands of brave American sons and daughters, their sacrafice made this post a possibility.

I support ALL of our troops no matter what political party they come from. One bullet is all it takes to kill a soldier. One pen, one voice, one father or mother can speak loud and clear to support them ALL and defend them ALL. One flag is ALL we have and calling half of our nations military phony disgust me and it should you too! Support ALL of our troops or support none! Bullets are funny, they do not know if you are a Republican or a Democrat. Body bags coming home are multi tasking. Think about it...

Rush Limbaugh is a dinosaur and like them he should be a fossil for the archives of the Smithsonian. While he supports only half the troops in our military, please do not support any of his advertisers.
Correction: Red Lobster has contacted me and informed me that they no longer advertise for Rush Limbaugh

I was made aware your recent blog post in which Red Lobster is mentioned, and would like the opportunity to offer clarification about our advertising.

Red Lobster does not advertise on Rush Limbaugh’s program. In 2004, we shifted our advertising focus away from radio to concentrate on network and cable television. We do not advertise on any radio networks or sponsor radio programs.

I appreciate the opportunity to respond and thank you for your time.

Rush Limbaugh Dictates Military Courage?

Let me just begin by saying that any person that has never served in the military of the United States of America has NO place dictating who is in service to our nation or not. I don’t care if you are a freaking whack job Congressional member or even the President of the United States of America. Let me go further and say that radio talk show host’s that never served in our military have NO room to talk about who is a soldier in service and whom is not. Especially, when they have never served in the theatre that is the Iraq, Afghanistan, War on Terror, and KBR and Haliburton balance sheet surplus.

Rush Limbaugh is a phony! He proves it more times than not by being the “Water Boy for the Republican’s”, his words, not mine. How dare he call any of our service members “Phony Troop’s”! Talk about spitting in the faces of the troops? Rush saved himself the trip to the airport or the bus terminal and just broadcast that half of our military personnel are “Phony Troop’s” on his radio program. Those would be publicly owned airwaves regulated by the FCC. I’m told that the Democrat’s in Congress are moving to pass a non binding resolution to denounce Rush Limbaugh.

Let me just offer this advice to the very ignorant Rush Limbaugh and any of his listeners that buy his words as gospel of his EIB broadcast, when the hell that is Iraq or Afghanistan is going down, there is no division among the close knit men fighting for their lives. Bullets and IED’s do not single out just Republican troops. Both side of the political aisle come home in body bags. Rush Limbaugh is a God damn hypocrite and a traitor to all of the United States Military. While your son or daughter would give up their lives to save someone in their unit Rush is calling them a coward and a phony. Screw you Rush!

I highly recommend the read over the past few days at the Gun Toting Liberal.

His anger is frankly more relevant and on topic than any point I could ever make. I’m proud of him and many like him that served our nation and I for one would never question it. Check all the posts at the GTL on this topic. He speaks from the heart on being called a part of what Rush Limbaugh calls the “Phony Troop’s”. Screw Rush Limbaugh and anyone that thinks half the troops are phony! America has one flag and our troops in any service fight the orders they are told. By no means do they have to agree with it but they are in service to their nation. Military service is not about politics, it is about serving and obeying orders from the civilian government. They are not drones! Each man or woman in service has a mind and a right to think what they believe is wrong or right. Being in the military of our nation does not automatically make you a Republican strong base.

My friend Gunny over at the Gun Toting Liberal has this highly emotional topic covered more than I could ever give it justice…

I guess I was one of the (obviously) crack-smoking Rush Limbaugh’s “phony Soldiers”; well — TECHNICALLY; a “phony Airman” since I was appalled by the waste of lives and money I personally saw being poured into the meatgrinder called “Iraq”, up close and PERSONAL in my capacity of being one of those “boots on the ground” in support of what was originally supposed to be our enforcement of U.N Resolution 1441; rapidly accomplished within WEEKS, I might add. Apparently, about half the other troops I served in the “sandbox” with were also “phony Soldiers”, too. Thanks for NOTHING, Rush — you hypocritical PIG. - Gun Toting Liberal

As a Democrat and a Liberal I support ALL of our troops. I do not support why they are there but I support our troops one hundred percent and then some. No political party affiliation is required when the military funeral service is happening and just a bunch of guys and gals from all over America called the Patriot Riders show up in support of the families.

Rush Limbaugh never served in the military, neither did many of the strong supporters of this war. Bill O’Reilly is just another loud mouth that never served. At the least Don Imus did serve and wore the uniform but that is another topic for another day.

In the halls of our Federal Government are many Republican’s that never wore the uniform of our military but are calling the Democrat’s cowards. Vice President Dick Cheney never served and he is one of the loudest voice among most of them. Google search it for yourself.

Many of the Democrat’s including Teddy Kennedy, John Kerry and Al Gore actually wore the uniform. Google search your favorite Republican military record and tell me what you find out? I think you will be surprised by the results.

This war is turning into Vietnam all over again and the division of the people at home has begun to come to a boiling point. Democrat’s want the troops home and Republican’s call us all out to blindly support the war. If our military is a sampling of America then they too are of the same opinion of both political thoughts on this topic. Some support it and some do not. And still they are on the front lines. Some will die, some will rotate out. The ones that rotate out are the lucky ones.

Rush Limbaugh is a piece of crap!!! I support ALL of our kids in MILITARY SERVICE to America, Rush supports just half.
