Good Morning Papamoka Bloggers - WHAT A FANTASTIC AND BEAUTIFUL MORNING! I'm sure most of you are just as happy as I am this morning. I hope this feeling can last a long time, despite all the work that needs to be done. Unfortunately, I need to write about both the good and the bad regarding the election this morning.
The good, of course, is Obama's victory along with significant majorities in the House and Senate. The bad, so far, is that the Republican - and Bush lackey - Norm Coleman of Minnesota might have won last night. The man is one of the worst Republican tools, so let us pray the recount goes our way and Al Franken becomes a senator.
Shockingly, I hate to report that one of the WORST REPUBLICANS WON - Michelle Bachman of Minnesota. All I can say is WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE IN MINNESOTA! They're both pretty horrible, but Bachman is VILE! Oh well, she's your problem now. Good luck with that.
I'm also DISGUSTED TO REPORT that Prop 8 might be a victory for the Mormons and the Catholics in my state of California. One of our state's newest civil rights, gay marriage, might be overturned. Discrimination might be written into our constitution for the first time in our history. It is very sad. All I can say is you guys will always BE MARRIED in my book. We'll fix it, but in the meantime try to be happy anyway - that's written into a much more IMPORTANT constitution.
It's also important to remember that some vote stealing did occur around the country yesterday, and it is important for all of us to be aware of it and to try and make sure it DOES NOT STAND! Incredibly, there are reports on different voter fraud websites that as many as six million votes went illegally to Republicans last night, and that the Democrats might have won more states, like Montana, Georgia, and North Dakota to name a few.
According to many sources, Republican operatives were hard at work in Georgia stealing ballots and threatening voters. They allegedly failed to replace broken voting machines in African-American districts, and forced people to vote provisionally when their names did not appear on the rolls.
Overall, despite our wonderful national success, it would appear that it was a bad night for Democracy in Georgia. Unfortunately, if we cannot overturn the results, the SCUMBAG SAXBY CHAMBLISS, who beat triple amputee and Vietnam vet Max Cleland in 2004 by calling him "a friend of Osama bin Laden," will remain a US Senator. Let us hope that we can prove the theft and defeat Chambliss before it's too late.
So, we MUST CELEBRATE TODAY, but we must also keep fighting. Max Chambliss MUST NOT GO TO THE US SENATE! We must all write our congressional offices and demand justice. Unfortunately, this cannot be over until we all demand the necessary recounts. Still, God bless America! We did it. We WON! Congratulations to us all!
Hello Bloggers – I’m honored that Papamoka and the team have asked me to join as a contributor to this, one of my favorite blogs. My name is Michael Boh and I recently started my own blog Our Rants and Raves with a small group of friends interested in progressive voices and speaking truth to power. It is a pleasure to join this blog and its readership, to expand the reach, and hopefully the depth, of our discussions.
My first post on this venerable blog will be a discussion about single-issue voters. It’s an issue that truly gets under my skin. We all know them. We sit at dinner parties and listen to them go on and on about the one issue they care about. It’s often taxes (money), abortion (enforced morality), the Middle East (Jewish and born-again Christians), social security (the elderly), and the latest, single-sex marriage (the closed minded).
I don’t wish to debate each issue on this blog, only the fact that single-issue voters base their voting decisions on that one issue. Some might call them passionate. I often call them narrow-minded and unbalanced. It’s a shame, but single-issue voters and so-called “independents” are the swing vote in pretty much every election. Studies seem to suggest that single-issue voters wait to make their final decision based on who addresses their issue most favorably prior to Election Day. Who knows about independents – it’s still a mystery. Single-issue voters are the ones targeted most by the candidates and special interest groups. They receive a lot of attention. They respond well to negative ads. It’s kind of creepy.
So, I would like to appeal to the single-issue voters out there. You need to open up to more issues. You need to vote based on multiple, important critical issues. If you love this country like you say, then you need to do your homework. As I tell my own single-issue friends, we have so many problems in this country that nobody has the luxury of voting based on a single issue. If you do, then I believe you are ignoring the other problems that are threatening our future. As voters, we must all take responsibility for the future of the whole nation, not just part of it.
For those who feel that voting based on a single issue is about the future of the nation, I would argue that you are kidding yourself. There are always multiple factors. Those of you who only consider lower taxes when trying to understand the economy should consider the cost of borrowing from our children as a price we cannot afford to pay. “Borrow and spend” is worse than “tax and spend” any day. Oh yes, and for those who actually believe McCain’s promise to cut enough spending, I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you. You need to learn more about economic issues, and how tax policy is only one tool in a government’s economic strategy.
In the end I’ve discovered that most single-issue voters don’t like debating their favorite issues. They seem to use them more as a crutch – a sort of personal voter cheat sheet. It’s what helps them decide who’s right and who’s wrong. They tend to be very black and white - no greys.
Defense is a great example. Whenever I try to make a case that American voters seem myopic about defense spending, and how we need to cut spending and share our role as the world’s police force, my single-issue voting friends simply say that it’s impossible. Nothing’s impossible if you try hard enough. We need to open our eyes on this and other issues. Let’s throw away our blinders. There are billions of dollars available to us if we could only change our single-issue, military-industrial mindset.
I think I’ve “blogged” enough on this one. I hope our single-issue friends see the light and tear up their cheat sheets before the election, for the good of our nation. In Republican circles it is now Obama’s fault for the legislation that Phil Gramm and John McCain voted for to derail any regulation in the financial markets. How is that logical? Has Michael Reagan been hitting the crack pipe to often or what? There is not one person more liable for this collapse than John McCain who fought hard for deregulation in every concept of the American economy! It's his freaking basis for being a Senator from Arizona! It's his entire reason for being a public servant. Less government, less regulation, it is who John McCain is! Just the push poll on the site tells the story about what Newsmax is really all about. Hello my brotha from another motha Fox News. The ad I saw was a picture of Obama and the question was “Make American Kids Learn Spanish? Yes or NO”. If that doesn’t piss off the Latino vote then I don’t know what will? All of you people of South American decent should be pissed off at this accusation! My family came to America speaking Gaelic, where did your family come from and what language did you speak at home? Divide and conquer is the tactic here and you should not fall for it! I’m second generation Irish American and all I know of Gaelic is the phrases of Saint Patricks Day. Cead me Faulte. One thousand welcomes. And I probably screwed that up. That is what America is all about. You come here for the dream of a better life, you assimilate your family. They become regular American’s like all of us. End of discussion.
Democrats in the Congress did not stuff this legislation to change the banking industry down the throats of the American people? A Republican lead Congress did it under George Bush and his no veto record the entire time the Congress was in control of the Republican Party. The demise of our economy rest solely on the people in power from the right side of the aisle that voted in majority over and over again to shift the American form of government into the hands of the private sector. Banking deregulation was foremost in John McCain’s voting record and he can not run from the facts! He can not run from the fact that he and George Bush wanted to privatize Social Security either just like they did the banking industry. McCain voted for this demise. He can not hide from it!

America is being raped and he is blaming a Senator that has only been in office for a few years for our nations financial market collapse? Grow up and own up Michael Reagan. Would you care to comment on the Senator from Arizona lock step vote with Phil Gramm on gutting the safety valve steps that FDR put in place after the last Wall Street collapse?
America is facing a serious crisis and the only answer you have is not blaming a candidate for President that has voted to repeal every safety valve that FDR (A Democrat) put forth to protect America from the next great depression. Ya, your on topic and realistic! NOT!
One more millionaire Republican pointing out how stupid we as American’s can be. Don’t buy into it. You are smarter than that. Voting for McCain is voting for not just what George Bush stood for but voting away everything that provided retirement protections in Social Security. Can you honestly trust anyone that will gamble your guaranteed Social Security check on Wall Street after the latest events? I would not bet on that and I would certainly not vote for the SOB that would risk it on my behalf.
Over at the McCain campaign for President they are running amok with nobody really in charge including John McCain. Reports are coming from all directions that the one direction they are all heading is one that nobody really believes in. As Senator McCain flips and flops on issues all over the spectrum politically, his campaign can not keep the message straight. The John McCain Straight Talk Express has apparently gone off the road and is lost in the woods.
One of the sites that I contribute to has a very well written piece on the lies that McCain finds himself embracing just to hold on to the Bush dynasty of voters. The language is graphic but the point is made that John McCain has morphed into someone that was never John McCain for the sake of running for President. And worse off, if he can’t sell his side of the aisle on the politics of life then he and his political campaign have no problem making stuff up as fast as they can. If his campaign needs money then he flips his opinion on drilling for oil off the Atlantic coast and raises more money from oil executives and the oil industry in one month than he has in the past eighteen months. From now on I don’t care what McCain promises. I don’t care what he says. He’s a lying dirtbag. Shout it from the hills people and don’t be afraid. They have no problems making shit up, so we shouldn’t have a problem telling the truth. Afterall, we aren’t Republicans.- Bring It On!
Over at YouTube they have this great piece on many of the flips and flops that McCain has “Evolved” his opinion on. Many of which don’t even come close to why John the “Maverick” McCain was even in the spotlight for President just eight short years ago. (Video Link)
One of the things that caught my thought process to write this post was the way that McCain has really changed in the last eight years. He went from being a moderate Republican in the congress to an extremist mirroring all of the idiocy of Bush. The only way to explain this transformation is the fact that he would sell his own soul to be President.
One of the things I admire about Obama in all of this election campaign of he said this and then they said that is that Obama still stands for Universal Health Care, he still stands for the middle and lower classes when it comes to our political issues. Obama and his decision on Choice is still clear and not up for approval or disapproval and easily changed by special interest groups. Obama’s voice is his own and his campaign does not have to run shotgun over his comments and make numerous corrections to the press on a daily basis.
It is pretty clear in all the press reports that there are too many people trying to drive the bus over at the McCain campaign and the only one not able to actually drive the bus is the candidate for President.
Democrat’s should all be thankful to Senator McCain for wanting to run a clean Republican campaign without all the negativity and nastiness aimed at Senator’s Obama and Clinton. Not that Senator Obama does not have a few skeletons in his closet but it will be nice to see a Presidential campaign based on the issues instead of accusation of who stuck a wad of gum under which lunch table in high school.
Now that the North Carolina campaign is in full swing the television ads from all camps will be flying on the airwaves and we all know about those pesky privately funded advertisements. We all know that the candidates technically can not be held responsible for the actions of any politically active groups supporting their election bid for the White House. Wink, wink, wink!
We can’t hold John McCain liable for below the fray politics if it didn’t come from his campaign war chest or even his lips. Wink, wink, wink! Over at CNN they have this piece on John McCain and his very respectful campaign strategy and we should be truly thankful for his personal integrity on running an issue based election…
After McCain effectively clinched the Republican nomination, he called on his party to run a respectful, above-the-fray campaign.
But the ad, conceived by North Carolina Republicans, appears to defy that call. "For 20 years, Barack Obama sat in his pew listening to his pastor," the TV ad says.
The ad then airs comments from Obama's pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, who says: "And then wants us to sing 'God Bless America?' No, no, no. Not 'God Bless America,' God [expletive] America."
McCain's campaign released an e-mail he sent North Carolina GOP Chairwoman Linda Daves that asked her not to run the ad.
"In the strongest terms, I implore you to not run this advertisement," he wrote. "This ad does not live up to the very high standards we should hold ourselves to in this campaign." North Carolina Republicans refused to pull the ad.
"I can't dictate to them. But I want to be the candidate of everybody. I want to be the candidate of Republicans and Democrats and independents," he said Wednesday.
During one New Orleans appearance, an audience member questioned McCain about an endorsement he received from controversial Pastor John Hagee, who once said on a radio show that "what happened in New Orleans looks like the curse of God."
"When someone endorses me, [it] does not mean I embrace their views," he responded. Later on his bus, McCain elaborated, "I didn't attend pastor Hagee's church for 20 years."-CNN
Wink, wink, wink. Key phase from McCain himself is; "I didn't attend pastor Hagee's church for 20 years."
Maybe the press should ask Senator McCain what the definition of the phase “Above the fray” means in relation to respectful campaigning? Get the old Maverick in the hot seat like they had Bill Clinton when he had to define the word “It” during one of his “Personal” indiscretions.
One can picture John McCain reviewing the television advertisement being very disgruntled about the negative content and yet nodding his head and winking in full approval while Karl Rove okayed the ads to run all over North Carolina. Technically, McCain did not approve it but maybe his consultant did? This is of course all speculation but the only speculation that makes sense for McCain to utter the phrase in defense of his association and endorsement with and by Reverend John Hagee.
I think if I had the lesser of two evils and associations that I would prefer Reverend Wright’s every single time. McCain with this remark has proven the fact that he has no intention to run a clean fight against Obama for the White House.
This is a rambling of the events in the debate between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama in Austin Texas. Please forgive any spelling errors and grammar. This is a play by play of the event that starts about roughly fifteen minutes into it. In this report there are some infrences from my own memory of the broadcast. This is the second time that I have tried this so let me know what you think…
ECONOMY
Obama: We don’t need an economist to tell the American people that our economy is busted and people are struggling. Our economy must be a priority of the next President. Cutting tax breaks for companies that outsource American jobs, giving a middle class tax break. Seniors making less than $50,000 should not have to pay any taxes. How do we get it done with the dominance of special interest?
Hillary: End the tax code loopholes. The wealthy have had their special interest President for the last eight years, it’s time for you. I want a trade prosecutor. Foreclosure crisis needs a 90 day moratorium. Freeze interest rates for five years. Clean green jobs with a $5 billion dollar investment. Infrastructure rebuilt creating thousands of jobs. Ending the war on scientist from Bush. Fund the future of an innovation nation.
A question on Immigration and stopping the raids on illegal immigrants
Hillary: All for stopping the raids, against the reality of parents taken away and children coming home to nothing. Failure of the immigration system is the problem. Cracking down on employers of illegalls. Fed help for border towns and cities to deal with the burdens on the system.
Obama: Immigration is a political football. Tone down the rhetoric and hate crimes against Hispanics. Border security and cracking down on employers. Policy change to fix the immigration system but the back of the line is where illegal immigrants must go. Years of delays have made the problem worse. Fines and higher fees for immigrating legally have become exorbitant and do not make sense. Improve our relationship with Mexico to ensure jobs in Mexico. Bush has no outreach to immigration policy.
BORDER FENCE
Finish it or kill it?
Hillary: We both voted for it. There is a smart way and a dumb way on border security and Bush just does not get it. There are places where a a physical barriers works and does not. Bush does not listen to the people on the borders. Technology innovation is the way to go. There are limited places where a fence will work like cutting through the middle of one of the colleges in Texas.
Obama: Agrees with Hillary. Bush is not good at listening to the people most affected by the border problem. Better border patrol and deal with the problem. Deporting 12 million people is not the answer. 12 million people are living in the shadows. Reform of immigration is important. Fight for the Dream Act which does not penalize the children of illegal immigrants born here from and eductation.
SPANISH LANGUAGE
This was a question on the English language only issue where as 120 million people will be of Hispanic decent in the next ten years…
Hillary: Learning another language is important. I do not speak another language. We have a common language but she is against a common language? Against English only in hospitals, court rooms and public places in government.
Obama: Everyone needs to learn English. All children should be learning a second language. It’s an opportunity to learn and communicate across language barriers.
OPPONENT SPEECHES vs. SOLUTIONS
The question was posed and stated in the terms of “Where’s the Beef” of Wendy’s hamburger fame. Texas logo “All hat and no cattle”.
Hillary: I have a lot in common with Obama and we both have run vigorous campaigns. We have differences and 35 years of experience. No accomplishments from Obama where actions speak louder than just words.
Obama: I provided tax reform, ethics reform, transparency in government, veterans meals paid for at Walter Reid. On getting real comments from Clinton camp. Voters are not delusional and every major newspaper in Texas has endorsed me. Let’s focus on the solutions and end the bickering. This isn’t just about policy as much as it is about inspiring people. Beyond racial and religion differences. I’m running for the people and not for more of the same.
PLAGIRISM
Obama: Governor Deval Patrick is a national chairman of my campaign. Speaking to the people is something I have done for two years. Deval Patrick gave me the lines and said that I should use them. This is silly season. Some of my speeches are pretty good. $4000 credit for college, change the tax code, end the war in Iraq. Let’s not tear each other down but lift up the people.
Hillary: Your own words? Lifting words? (Crowd booed) Elequent health care with 15 million people left out. We need a moratorium of foreclosure.
Obama interupts with: That will not work with entrenched opposition.
Hillary: I did healthcare when it was not popular.
Obama: My medical plan is not as good but politics has changed that. Cutting cost and prevention, bureaucracy, stats on plans and blah blah blah on specifics. Leaving 15 million out is simply not true. I credit Senator Clinton on her work in health care but the closed doors discussion ended her efforts. We need to change the politics of health care or we will be both here in four years discussing it no matter who is elected.
COMMANDER IN CHIEF
Hillary: Demands more time on healthcare. Obama Plan mandates fines and penalties against parents that do not inure children.
Obama: The mandate is on you. What works in Massachusetts has the poorest 20% fined for not having healthcare.
Hillary: Health care is important and the people have this as the number on issue. Your plan fines parents for not having healthcare for children.
Obama: My plan is affordable and parents that do not provide it are not being responsible parents.
COMMANDER IN CHIEF
Hillary: I’ve been to 80 countries fighting for woman’s rights. We face change in Cuba’s leadership. I support Kosovo and I’m more prepared on day one.
Obama: I would not be running for President if I could not be commander in chief. I will act against those that would harm America. Military needs to be prepared and armed to do the job. Bush has had poor planning. Using the military wisely. I did not vote for the war in Iraq. Our military is over stretched. We have to many eggs in the basket of Musharif and that is wrong.
RUNNING AGAINST MCCAIN
IS IRAQ BETTER BEFORE THE SURGE
Hillary: Iraq government needs to make changes. Their purpose is not fulfilled. Iraq government has failed to move. I will withdraw troops in sixty days. I will not give a blank check for the Iraq War. Our military is stretched to thin. Bring our troops home and Iraq owns their future.
Obama: Fort Hood troops pushed AlQuida out of Baghdad. McCain was wrong first and still wrong. $3.7 billion a week in the Iraq war. Iran is the biggest benefactor of this war. We need veteran care after service. Homeless veterans? $12 billion a month spent in Iraq with McCain saying he will keep us there for 100 years. McCain embraces George Bush with more of the same politics.
PORK BARREL SPENDING
Obama asked about $90 million in ear marks
Obama: Not true. The funds were for Google for government where all bids and awards are listed. More disclosure and transparency. I’m out in the open of government spending.
Hillary was asked about her $393 million in ear marks
Hillary: Obama supported the Bush tax cuts. Bush deficit is $400 billion this year. I’m for back to fiscal responsibility. Expire the tax cuts for the rich. Middle class tax cuts, ending the Bush no bid contracts. I’ve just published my new economic blue print.
SUPER DELGATES VS VOTERS WISHES
Hillary: We will win!
Obama: Primaries and Caucuses count. It’s the will of the voters. We need to have the government listening to them. There is a brick wall of government that can not be overcome. We need to knock down those barriers of government. We face a higher purpose and want our government back.
MOMENT AND TEST OF CRISIS
Obama: My trajectory of life. My single mom raising me alone with my grandparent from age two. Mistakes of course as a young man. But I’ve worked to bring people together and the American people just deserve better.
Hillary: I’ve lived crisis in my life. People already know that. They ask me how do I do it? With prayer and more. I have been through nothing compared to what America is facing. Kicks she has taken, faith and upbringing gets her up in the morning. I’m honored to be with Barack Obama. This election is about the American people. (huge applause)
That was the end of the debate. Who actually had one up on the other is not up to me to decide. I’m sure you can catch a CNN rebroadcast somewhere.
I apologize for all the typo’s and grammar errors. I was working from notes watching the debate. The full transcript is in the CNN picture link above. I'll be curious myself how accurate I was.
Somebody tell me that they thought John McCain was totally blown away that he actually won New Hampshire just by the way he gave his victory speech. He was no more prepared for the win than a new bride is for her divorce papers two days after the ceremony. Senator McCain read his entire speech from freaking cue cards that he brought to the stage with him. Cue cards that he probably found in an old forgotten election in New Hampshire. I’m sure there was a few lines that were crossed out or written over but it was the worst speech of the night.
I simply could not get past that he kept his eyes down reading from the cards and would look up when he read three or four words ahead and back down went his head. It happened throughout his entire speech! It was the worst possible performance coming from a man that just kicked Governor Mitt Romney’s ass.
Having watched John Edwards give his speech from the losers but winners circle he spoke from his heart and you could feel the connection. The heart and pulse of his election was in his personal words mixed in with his points on why folks in other states with elections coming up should not count him out. He isn’t giving up and it was there in his words, his heart felt conviction that there is still hope for his candidacy. Not from cue cards but from the gut.
Same thing with Governor Huckabee, thanking friends and supporters and all the people of New Hampshire. Good old Huckabee was impressed that we New Englanders actually knew what hospitality is? All the time Mike Huckabee was in full eye contact with the crowd and his supporters, no cue cards, just Huckabee telling the folks of New Hampshire how glad he was he discovered them to be… um… people. Southerners, in Huckabee’s opinion have a very wrong opinion of us New Englanders. Somebody should tell him that we stopped burning witches centuries ago but with the current cost of home heating prices it might come up on a ballot somewhere. No offense to witches or Wican life intended.
Then we had the stadium speech from Barack Obama and yet a continued message of hope for the next day, the next race, and he spoke with conviction from his heart to the people in the stadium. One of the many differences of the Obama speech was all the people at his concession location. He has the wave going and he needs to rock it forward and get the younger voters as well as the older voters motivated to actually vote. He’s making it rough for Hillary but she is making it just as rough for him with a well placed near tear sob.
All of the other candidates talked from the hip with the emphasis that they were there and connected to the people of New Hampshire. I have to admit I see a little of JFK and FDR in Obama because he isn’t selling fear, desperation, anger, hate or even outright rage. His speech to the folks of New Hampshire was thankful and full of hope. Not many are offering that and that is why he will do well across America. He may have lost the vote count but Hillary and Barrack both walked out of New Hampshire with the same result. Two votes for the convention. End result is a tie.
John McCain, I still don’t get why he didn’t shoot from the hip and speak his mind. It was almost as if he had to be somewhere else in less than thirty minutes and he found a speech that would get him to the airport on time. Key phrases only, stop the crowd from cheering too loud so you don’t loose your place, more key phrase like love of country, patriotism and keeping America safe. The whole speech sounded like he had not written it himself and he bought it from a very poor political speech writer. Not many checks cashed for that speech writer I’m sure.
I won’t comment on Hillary’s speech because the race was to close to call and McCain’s speech was better than a sleeping pill. I went to bed just shaking my head.
One last thought on the outcome of New Hampshire is the Independent voters of the state. New Hampshire has over forty percent Independent voters and they can pick and choose which party to vote in the primary. That is why the polls were all wrong across the board. Throw out the race card from Chris Matthews and all the political hype on why Hillary won or McCain won. The Independent’s tossed the vote into never never land simply because New Hampshire is the Live Free or Die state.
Next state elections, Nevada, Michigan and South Carolina. Let’s see who shows up and what spin they have as a candidate in each state. It’s amazing to see the candidates on the right lean extreme right in the South and then try and hide it in the northern states.
This election has not even started as yet and we have the next phase of playing to the political base of each party coming up. Then we have the fun of watching all the main stream media and political polls getting it wrong again.
Seeing how all of the main stream media television is for the most part delegating Joe Biden’s run for President to the last sentence in every single news broadcast then I guess it is up to the “New Media” to really report the facts. Joe Biden is forming a wave of support and frankly I do not believe that even his own campaign knows that the Biden Tsunami is coming. Much like a Tsunami, the tremors and shocks of the earthquake from all over the United States on the internet and all the blogs supporting him will hit Iowa alone on January 3rd.
Could I offer you a list of blogs writers that are supporting Joe Biden? I can think of four not including myself that have thrown up videos, did posts on or mentioned him as the only person worth voting for in the next Presidential election. That is just my little part of the blogging world. We are breaking three thousand visitors a month here at Papamoka Straight Talk. This is all free media and advertising for Joe Biden, we are not getting paid for this effort and we do not want his money. That is not the case with every single newspaper or television station in Iowa or New Hampshire. You can tell by the major evening news stations that Biden is not spending his hard earned campaign donations with them. “Oh and Joe Biden was in Iowa today.” HUH?
Here is what is really happening according to the Joe Biden camp…
The estimated 250 people at Biden's campaign rally cheered and waved signs, manufactured and homemade, in a scene more typical of the events of Democratic front-runners. "Ladies and gentlemen, I'm gonna shock the hell out of you," Biden said over the din of a cheering crowd Saturday night in an uncharacteristically short speech. He spent less time selling himself and more time answering questions from the audience.
In a working-class city with a strong Irish and Catholic influence, Biden appeals to people, said Teri Goodmann, Iowa co-chairwoman for Biden's campaign. "In spite of people's desire to have the first African-American, the first woman, the first Hispanic, the reality of our lives is that we have a tremendous demand right now in this job for someone who has experience in foreign relations," she said."- Des Moines Register

Take, for example, the Joe Biden event I attended last night in Council Bluffs, about ten minutes after I drove out of the Omaha airport. At least 150, maybe 200 people gathered in an Elks Lodge, during the dinner hour, on a week night with the thermometer reading 18 degrees to hear...Joe Biden! And it was vintage Biden....This went on for two hours and came to an end only when Brother Jim had to literally drag the candidate to a waiting car. At no point did the audience grow restless or bored. After each answer, five or six more hands shot up. The interest was avid and, in fact, Biden's biggest applause line of the night had nothing to do with the usual sort of pandering, bur rather when he vowed that in a Biden administration he would outlaw all forms of torture."- Huffington Post
And then this…
To complicate matters today, the ground in central Iowa was blanketed with snow by early morning, and the highways surrounding Des Moines were littered with cars that had slid off the road. But about 100 people crowded into a public library meeting room to listen to Biden speak.
"He's an honest, good man. He tells it like it is," said Glenda McIntire of Waukee, Iowa. She said she's a long-time supporter. "It's been uphill all the way, but the first time we met here we probably had 15 people. When I see him in person I get revved up again."- Guardian Unlimited (UK) Or this on the MSM just ignoring Biden even exists...
Immediately after the assassination of Benazir Bhutto the front page story in the Washington Post about Pakistan and the presidential campaign did not even mention Joe Biden, the only candidate who seriously distinguished himself on the Pakistan crisis.
Upon reflection, the Washington Post editorial page, which has supported Bush on the Iraq war as Pravda supported Leonid Brezhnev, followed up with a lead editorial on candidates and Pakistan, which, incredibly, did not even acknowledge of Joe Biden.
Here is why the major media, including the daily newspapers, has lost such credibility with the American people and in the case of insider print media, so many subscribers who moved their business to internet sites, including this one.- The Liberal Journal
This is going to be an uphill battle to get the word out for Joe Biden by January 3rd but it is not a mountain. We can all do this and if you can’t stand the main stream appointed front runners on the Democrat side of the process then by all means speak up loud and clear. One of the things that I love about Biden besides all of his life experience, political experience and personal candor is the where the majority of the money for his campaign is coming from. Ten bucks here, fifteen bucks here and twenty bucks from over here. There are not to many thousand dollar a plate dinners scheduled in his past or current campaign. That speaks volumes as to whom is really behind the Biden campaign and it isn’t Wall Street or special interest groups. I’m off to box up a couple of dozen rolls of paper towels for the Biden Tsunami in Iowa and New Hampshire.

Good Morning Papamoka Bloggers - WHAT A FANTASTIC AND BEAUTIFUL MORNING! I'm sure most of you are just as happy as I am this morning. I hope this feeling can last a long time, despite all the work that needs to be done. Unfortunately, I need to write about both the good and the bad regarding the election this morning.
