Bunning to Distribute Unemployed Laxatives

Major players in the GOP are trying hard to get past the nickname “Party of No” and Senator Jim Bunning of Kentucky isn’t helping matters with his latest remarks on the Senate floor. Political pundits on the left side of the aisle are going to have a field day with Bunning and his comment to Democrats regarding his stalling tactics that will kill unemployment and Cobra benefits for millions of Americans.

Apparently, Senator Bunning has a potty mouth…

Senate Democrats spent Thursday night hammering away at Sen. Jim Bunning (R-Ky.) for single-handedly holding up action in the upper chamber – but he blurted out a message to one of them on the Senate floor: “Tough s—t.”

In an unusual display in the normally sleepy chamber, Bunning – without the support of GOP leadership – has blocked efforts to quickly approve a series of extensions to measures that would otherwise expire Sunday, including unemployment insurance and the Cobra program that allows people who lose their health benefits to continue getting coverage.

And that has led to a furious exchange on the floor, with Democrats attacking the senator, who has refused to relent on his objection, in unusually harsh terms.
In a colloquy with Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), Sen. Jeff Merkley, a freshman Democrat from Oregon, was pleading for Bunning to drop his objection, when the Kentucky Republican got fed up.

“Tough s—t,” Bunning said as he was seated in the back row, overheard by the floor staff and others in attendance.

A spokesman for Bunning did not immediately respond to a request for comment. – Politico

I would like to be the first to rename the GOP from the political party of “NO” to the new and improved name of “Tough Shit”. Republican Senator Jim Bunning is a gift from God to the Democrats and they should all get down on one knee to say a quick thank you prayer. I can see the jingles and campaign signs that will sprout in the spring thanks to the laxative comment from Senator Bunning. If he chooses to run for re-election then I would like to offer this free campaign slogan “Listen to your Momma and Bunning and eat your vegetables”.

This is either going to be a great bonus to the makers of Ex-Lax and Metamucil or its going to be a nightmare. Profits may rise considerably as hooligans empty the stores shelves of their product to paste the maker’s labels over every Bunning campaign sign. One could easily picture a left leaning out of work plumber putting a “Bunning for Senate” sign in a toilet out on his or her front lawn with a nice floral pattern of empty Metamucil jars elegantly landscaped around it.

I couldn’t make this sh!t up if I wanted too. I will however be watching all of the blogs and news agencies for any reports regarding the Republican Minority Leader in the Senate purchasing a bar of soap to wash a certain person’s mouth out with.

***UPDATE 3/01/2010***
Washington (CNN) - An angry Sen. Jim Bunning, R-Kentucky, refused to answer questions from CNN and ABC News Monday afternoon about his decision to block a bill that would extend unemployment benefits to millions of jobless Americans. An ABC News producer who was there says Bunning gave him the middle finger in response to a question.

And there is more...

By David Lightman and Halimah Abdullah | McClatchy Newspapers

WASHINGTON — The Department of Transportation furloughed nearly 2,000 employees without pay Monday as the government began to feel the impact of Republican Sen. Jim Bunning's one-man blockage of legislation that would keep a host of federal programs operating.

Bunning's "hold" also affects jobless benefits for thousands of unemployed workers, rural television customers, doctors receiving Medicare payments and others.

Republican Genocide on… Themselves

Politically, you can do nothing more idiotic than attack an elected officials wife. The wives of elected officials to any seat in our government did not ask for anyone’s vote. I wouldn’t blame a single one of them for voting against their own husband but that is another point for another Papamoka discussion. One thing these ladies from both sides of the political aisle do not deserve is ridicule and out right name calling that is frankly disgusting. Call her a bitch, mock her, degrade her, and more or less label her as fair game at the start of hunting season. It is wrong to do so and you pay the price for being a political idiot in doing so! Pure and simple it is dead wrong! It is beyond the sense of politics on what is right and what is wrong when you attack the spouse of any elected official. Mostly, it is out right nothing any politician should do to make their political point of view known. If you have a problem with the politician, then argue that point on what he was elected on. Leave his wife and family out of it.

Over at Politico they have the latest on the GOP going after the First Lady, Michelle Obama, again, cowardice and anti American if you ask me…

GOP transparency push seen as attack on Michelle O.

House Republicans are pressing for a change in federal law that could force Michelle Obama and future first ladies to do more of their policy work in public. But Democrats warn President Obama may take the attempt personally “as an attack on his wife.”

The GOP effort is being led by the ranking member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), whose initial salvo was rebuffed recently at a contentious committee markup session. Under Issa’s amendment, any government policy group that Mrs. Obama or another first spouse regularly participates in would be subject to a law requiring meetings to be announced in advance and, in most instances, public.

At the March 10 markup, Issa’s proposal triggered more than 35 minutes of impassioned debate. I’ve linked video of the exchange below, but Democrats clearly seemed to be recoiling at what some viewed as an effort to target Mrs. Obama.
- Politico

I need to be clear that I think that Michelle Obama, our First Lady, is an outstanding woman that could have gone far in life on her own without ever being First Lady. Michelle is highly educated, was making a hell of a lot more than her husband in private practice, and would have been very happy just being Michelle Obama if her husband wasn’t elected President. She gave it all up for America. She didn’t have to? She could have told her husband to hit the road if elected, because she didn’t need all the MSM crap that comes with her husband being President.

Republicans opened up a very larger than life can of worms by attacking the First Lady but they truly don’t understand the argument they are making for a more public reporting of the First Ladies actions. Michelle Obama is a private citizen and so are her children and that in my book makes them immune from media and Congressional attack mobs. Republican’s in Congress disagree but I can only offer my opinion on why they are dead wrong on this issue. Gentleman will always hold a door for a lady, gentleman will always offer assistance to a lady. It isn’t sexist, its just American and common courtesy. Michelle Obama has done nothing wrong other than saying “I do” during a wedding ceremony and her actions as First Lady have always been honorable following tradition of the office of President.

If this is the best strategy or argument against President Obama that the Republican Party has, then I look forward to the next election where many of the same Republican's will find themselves signing up for unemployment benefits in states where they said thier own people should have none. Easy to say if you have a couple of million in the bank like most Republican elected officials. Not so easy if the last paycheck you cashed was your only income.

McCain Liars Cry Wolf!

The only thing worse than being caught in a lie is being caught in a multitude of lies. And now the McCain campaign is complaining that all of the press is “In the Tank” against them. How dare the legitimate press that can in fact be “Sued for Defamation” check the facts coming out of not just John McCain's mouth but Sarah Palin's? How dare Fox News and Karl Rove turn against John McCain?

To top it off they call a press conference to confront the lies and then end up telling the same lies if not more? Did Pinocchio’s evil twin brother sign up to run the John McCain campaign for President? Hold off buying that extra couple of cord’s of wood to heat the house this winter, it appears the McCain camp has plenty to spare! It's pretty damn clear to me that nobody knows how to check facts in the McCain campaign now. Just make stuff up and throw it out there to grab a days worth of press coverage. Worry about the details later. Only the mud and crap hitting the fan really counts?

I first spotted this story over at the Gun Toting Liberal, then I ran into it again on Memeorandum. I’ve called the McCain for President campaign liars so many times based on facts that can be checked everywhere that it is almost like breathing. Apparently, nobody at McCain and company ever heard of Google or FactCheck.org! Politico has this to say on the latest outrage from the McCain campaign for declaring bloggers and MSM in the tank for Obama because facts don't own up to the McCain version of the truth…

McCain camp criticism rife with errors
By BEN SMITH 9/22/08 3:58 PM EDT

Sen. John McCain’s top campaign aides convened a conference call today to complain of being called “liars.” They pressed the media to scrutinize specific elements of Sen. Barack Obama’s record.

But the call was so rife with simple, often inexplicable misstatements of fact that it may have had the opposite effect: to deepen the perception, dangerous to McCain, that he and his aides have little regard for factual accuracy.

The errors in McCain strategist Steve Schmidt’s charges against Obama and Sen. Joe Biden were particularly notable because they seemed unnecessary. Schmidt repeatedly gilded the lily: He exaggerated the Biden family's already problematic ties to the credit card industry; Obama’s embarrassing relationship with a 1960s radical; and an Obama supporter’s over-the-top attack on Sarah Palin when — in each case — the truth would have been damaging enough.

-Snip-

Asked about the series of errors, McCain aides could not provide evidence to back up Schmidt’s assertions.

One McCain aide, Michael Goldfarb, said Politico was “quibbling with ridiculously small details when the basic things are completely right.”

Another, Brian Rogers, responded more directly:

“You are in the tank,” he e-mailed.
- Politico

Count me as in the tank! I hate a liar, I don’t tolerate it from my kids so why would I tolerate it from someone wanting my vote to be President? Common sense is not to be found at the McCain headquarters and for that matter with the candidate.

It has become more and more apparent that John McCain thinks that American’s are just stupid and will believe whatever he tells them. Unlike John McCain, most American’s live in the real world and can easily see how very different they are from him and the words that just spew out of his mouth. His reputation as the Maverick has melted down to the point of a used Ford Pinto salesman. It won’t blow up in your face if you don’t drive the car!

Speaking of cars, did you know John McCain and the wife own 13 cars? Barack and his wife only own one. Hmmm, who lives more like you do? Then we have one more lie to add to the McCain tote board of lies from Newsweek…

When you have seven homes, that's a lot of garages to fill. After the fuss over the number of residences owned by the two presidential nominees, NEWSWEEK looked into the candidates' cars. And based on public vehicle-registration records, here's the score. John and Cindy McCain: 13. Barack and Michelle Obama: one.

One vehicle in the McCain fleet has caused a small flap. United Auto Workers president Ron Gettelfinger, an Obama backer, accused McCain this month of "flip-flopping" on who bought daughter Meghan's foreign-made Toyota Prius. McCain said last year that he bought it, but then told a Detroit TV station on Sept. 7 that Meghan "bought it, I believe, herself." (The McCain campaign did not respond to multiple requests for comment.)
- Newsweek

John McCain is proving that he is only a Maverick against the truth. He should be ashamed of himself for loosing all the credibility he once had. He isn’t a Republican anymore, he is just an out right liar. We don’t need that in the White House.

Palin Donation Queen for Obama

Even though Governor Sarah Palin probably gave one of her best speeches ever at the RNC as a politician, she forgot the basic rules of politics. Facts are golden, rhetoric is empty, and the last one, don’t get caught in a lie when bashing your opponent. I give Governor Palin credit for a speech that sold well on television. She was a great poster girl for the McCain campaign but looking and sounding good does nothing without policy and plans to fix America. Governor Palin offered not even one plan to change the status quo in Washington but she sure was good at telling you who to be afraid of.

One of the good things she managed to accomplish last night in her acceptance speech as McCain’s VP was infuriate the Obama political base. Some estimates are claiming to the tune of $8 to $10 Million since she bashed the hell out of Obama’s experience as a candidate for President. Over at Politico they have this to say on the subject…

Palin raises $8 million — for Obama
Obama's coffers have been filling since Sarah Palin attacked him repeatedly in St. Paul last night.

An Obama aide confirms Drudge's report that Obama has raised about $8 million from more than 130,000 donors and is on pace to raise $10 million by the time McCain reaches the stage tonight. - Ben Smith of Politico

You just don’t call a man like Barack Obama with a long standing political record of achievements someone that has never passed any legislation… Ever? Has the Governor from Alaska never heard of or even used FactCheck.org? Or is she too computer illiterate like her running mate?

John McCain has no plans to change our government other than more of the same for him and all the millionaires that can not find enough ways to get money to his campaign coffers. His idea of alternative energy sources is drilling the hell out of every acre of land in America, Palin’s plans are record and Alaska sells a huge percentage of its natural gas to Japan and the far east. Facts are funny things like that. You can lie all you want but the facts never change.

“The truth will set you free, but first it will make you miserable.”
James A. Garfield

Words to live by and in this current political campaign, many people are living the miserable truth rather than the McCain and Palin lies. Keep on bashing Governor Palin, Barack Obama can use all the cash you raise for him!

I'm guessing that she really can't sell this bridge!

The Seven Houses of McCain

John McCain was asked how many houses he has and he had to defer the question to a staffer? The fact that the Senator from Arizona could not answer that question played right into the “Richer than God” playbook for his opponent from Illinois in pegging John McCain’s enormous wealth to the common people of America. John McCain can play the common man role well but the hundred plus million fortune and too many houses to keep track of fact blew his covert cover. Before all of you pundits get your hair riled up, most likely all of the houses are in his wife’s name but the simple ground rules are that she is the wife of John McCain and thus they share a common mega fortune. Oh, and seven plus houses if you count all the buildings on the McCain aka compound in Arizona.

Over at CBS News and You Tube they have this to say on the latest McCain outrage…

Video Link

I used to own just one house. I had an investment property during that ownership but sold it off during tough times. Umm, are these properties that the McCain family owns investment properties or just places to crash for the mega rich and wealthy? Take your private jet, to which McCain owns, and just drop in for a weekend? My investment property was a three decker in Worcester. We rented the apartments out for what the market could bare and with both of us working fulltime jobs we could not keep up with the needs of the investment. My WIFE and I sold it off a couple of years after we bought it for a small profit and that was the end of our real-estate investment speculation. I honestly don’t think John and Cindy McCain are renting out many of their properties so the fact of being a hundred millionaire is square on the lapels of Johnny the “Maverick” McCain.

Just don’t tell anyone that he has so many houses that he can’t keep track of them all. How he comes off telling people that the economy is sound when foreclosures are going through the roof, to which I have had real life experience with, tells anyone with a straight face that he is one of us is a freaking joke!

Then you have the fact that the top contender for John McCain’s Vice President choice is none other than a man with a fortune estimated at close to one half billion dollars? Financed his own campaign for President to the tune of over $45,000,000 and recently ate the debt aka donation from his own checking account. How many houses does Mitt Romney have? That would be something for the Main Stream Media to look into. Start with Utah and work east…

The only way John McCain would lose his home is if he lost the damn keys to the front door. His back up is six other homes to sleep in. What’s yours?

Other folks talking about this issue:

My hat’s off to Panama John McCain for having the guts to run for the highest office in the land despite being on the losing end of an unwinnable battle against gravity and mortality. Some shameful folks are insinuating this only proves the Distinguished Gentleman From Arizona Panama has lost his mind….

We’ll see how “funny” you all think it is when the day (God forbid) comes when YOU forget how many mansions, plush homes — whatever — YOU own. - Gun Toting Liberal

And of course Politico with their follow up post here...

Smoke and Mirror Energy Republican Congress

It’s five at night and the office is closing, lights are being shut off, janitors are emptying waste baskets, cleaning toilets, vacuuming the House of Congress for the summer vacation. Umm, there is one little problem, Republicans are not going home? They are calling to arms on energy issues when the business of the Congress is done for the summer? Something smells like a dead fish stuck in a cooler long forgotten in the back of the car.

Where were their outraged voices on an energy plan during the “Actual” session of the Congress? Something that most of them voted against during the actual Congressional session! Over at Politico they have this to say on this matter…

August 03, 2008

House Republicans go back on the floor Monday to talk gas prices

Continuing with their guerilla tactics from last week, House Republicans will be back on the floor Monday to talk gas prices, even though Congress is in recess, and they may stay there all week.

More than a dozen Republicans have already committed to make appearances, according to House GOP leadership aide, including National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Tom Cole (Okla.).

Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.) and Mike Pence (R-Ind.), who lead Friday's five-hour talkathon after the House shut down for the August recess, are also expected to be there, according to this aide.

"In an urgent memo sent to GOP Members and staff Saturday (“A Call to Action on American Energy”), Republican Leader John Boehner (R-) and Whip Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) hailed Friday’s action, and encouraged House Republicans to return to the Capitol beginning Monday morning to help keep the historic effort going," said a press release just released by Minority Leader Boehner's office.

“It’s not a request we make lightly. But the American people are suffering,” Boehner and Blunt said in the memo. “The consequences of continued congressional inaction on gas prices are unacceptable. We’ve called on the Speaker to call Congress back into an emergency session this month and schedule a vote on the American Energy Act. We must continue to make a stand until the Speaker complies.”
- Politico

This is a sham by Republican leaders in the Congress to baffle the media. Now they care about gas prices when it means absolutely nothing! More smoke and mirrors and shiny objects over hear while they screw you over somewhere else. Every single energy bill cutting back on green house gasses they voted against every single time in the last eight years. Meanwhile John McCain has switched his positions when it comes to energy issues from his Maverick mentality to I am George W. Bush again.

While the rest of the Congress is home with flip flops on, no pun intended, the Republican’s are playing politics in a house of government with not one clue as to what is really happening on main street in America. Holy crap, Republican’s finally see that the price of gas is at $4.00 per gallon and it just might hurt the economy.

Republican’s are about $2.00 dollars a gallon short of the message. Change is coming and American’s tend to vote their wallet. Thank you W for being such a kind steward for the mega gross profits for the industry your family and personal pocketbook served.

McCain Balanced Budget… Bull Expletive!

John McCain is going around the nation telling people that he will balance the federal budget by 2013 but there seems to be a little problem with his calculator. I’m thinking that Senator McCain has been drinking to much of the Bush BS juice and probably should cut back on the 80 proof that keeps falling into his coffee cup. Maybe he borrowed the shiny object from the Karl Rove playbook and thinks it will distract the nation while he keeps the nation building plan of W going in the Middle East?

Over at Politico they have this observation and I happen to think they are right…

“The McCain administration would reserve all savings from victory in the Iraq and Afghanistan operations in the fight against Islamic extremists for reducing the deficit. Since all their costs were financed with deficit spending, all their savings must go to deficit reduction.”

The pledge is a return to an earlier position he'd later backed away from. On April 15, McCain backed off a February pledge to balance the budget in his first term when asked about it by Michael Cooper of The New York Times, who reported that McCain said “at a news conference … that ‘economic conditions are reversed’ and that he would have a balanced budget within eight years.”

McCain advisers admit that the document is a repackaging of previous policies, without dramatic new initiatives. Some Democratic officials had thought McCain might try to make a splash by proposing a bold middle-class tax cut.

Jason Furman, Obama's economic policy director, called McCain's pledge “preposterous." Furman pointed out that the Congressional Budget Office now estimates a 2013 deficit of $443 billion, assuming the Bush tax cuts are extended. And he estimated that McCain would have to cut discretionary spending—including defense—by roughly one-third to bring the budget into the black by then.

"McCain would have to pay for all of his new tax cuts and other proposals and then, on top of that, cut an additional $443 billion from the budget—which is 81 percent of Medicare spending or 78 percent of all discretionary spending outside of defense," Furman said.
- Politico

By all of the savings in the Iraq/Afghanistan war does McCain mean to pay off the debt with the $100’s of billions per quarter he is also going to spend on keeping our military in the region for the next one hundred years? Maybe he has an in at KBR for services rendered in the region, or over at Bush and company a connection to a buy one get one free coupon? Then again, Bush and company is not giving up its secret recipe for denial to protect themselves from all those subpoenas building up on the front lawn of the White House as if they are on vacation from the real America.

Will McCain cut Social Security? He would have to actually gut Social Security to the bone if his plan to balance the budget could even remotely come close to reality. How about Medicaid? Same scenario just a different hunting knife. Then again cutting all them pesky programs that clutter the government might be a good thing if you just say to hell with the National Institute for Health, Center for Disease Control, and of course the Veterans Administration and all them wasteful military hospitals they run. Mind you, he wants to keep our troops in harms way for one hundred years, he just doesn’t want to pay for the wounded.

Maybe we should all just listen to Senator McCain when he says he knows nothing about economics. I sure as hell would not want him balancing my household checking account with all the made up numbers he has in his head when it comes to the federal governments budget. He’s spending dollars that his mouth can not pay for but then again this is politics where dollars grow on trees or should I say the backs of the middle and lower classes. Something John and Cindy McCain have no experience with.

If you follow the Maverick’s vote in the Senate then there has never been a spending bill for the VA that he has ever liked and yet he claims to be a hero for Veterans in the Senate. Feel free to research his votes and every single time a VA funding plan or expanse of funding came up, John McCain voted against the majority of them. Just more bull from the Maverick and with that being said, I need to borrow a shovel to clean up all the McCain bovine by product this post has left on this site.
