Missouri Ban on Gun Ban Legislation?

Someone in the Missouri House of Reps thinks it would be a good idea to make it a felony for any state government representative to propose legislation against anything to do with gun bans in Missouri.  Can we all assume that that idea is a really bad idea because it demands that we toss the first amendment to the constitution out the window to defend the second amendment.

Legislation introduced Monday by state Rep. Mike Leara, a Republican from St. Louis, thinks it should be illegal and a class D felony for his fellow legislators to propose any bill that would restrict any gun ownership in Missouri.  Sorry Mikey, you can't make a law banning legislators from LEGISLATING LAWS.  It is what we the people vote them into public office to actually do.

I did a quick search and I could not come up with an actual bill on the statehouse web site that Leara claims he submitted.

Constitutionally, it is a lame bill if ever there was one.  We really need to get some people that actually think before they act in the Missouri State house.  Somebody should seriously consider getting a logical group of folks together on something called a committee to come up with some common sense ideas that will actually work.  Submit those ideas to the governor and let him duke it out with the people in the house.  Past that, people like Leara would bring back the Guillotine and have a field day at the cost of the United States Constitution.

Missouri Gun Law Proposal... Take them away

Missouri Democrats introduced a bill in the house that seems far reaching if not impossible to pass.  I could be wrong but I think it reads that all guns would be banned.  The bill seems a bit far of a reach over the second amendment to the constitution.  Not to mention the problems it would face with SCOTUS.

Here is the link to the house bill number 545:  Missouri House 545

From what I read into house 545, it declares ALL guns illegal to own and you would have 90 days to turn them in.  Gun ownership after that date would be a class C felony.  I could be wrong?  What are your thoughts on the bill.

Thank you Memorandum for the news tip...

Westboro Baptist Church heading for Joplin, MO

In yet another disgusting and repulsive stand to get their piece of crap church message out, the Westboro Baptist Church has decided to picket the funerals for victims of the recent Joplin, MO tornado. This is the same group that travels the country desecrating veteran’s funerals.

The Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) has found a new group of people to rally against. The Kansas church, most infamous for its hatred of homosexuals, posted a document last Monday on its website celebrating the deaths of the Joplin, Missouri tornado victims.

“Thank God for 89 dead & counting in Joplin, Mo & 1 dead in Reading, KS!” the document declared in capital letters. “God’s whirlwind is pounding the enemies of Christ! WBC will picket your raging blasphemous stinky memorials!”

The members believe this tragedy in Joplin—and all other tragedies around the world—happened because God wants to punish people for homosexuality. The group plans to protest at the memorial service planned for Sunday, and will rally against President Barack Obama’s visit as well. – San Diego Entertainer Magazine

Fred Phelps and his group are subhuman pieces of crap disguising themselves as Christians. I’ve been posting articles about this group for years because of their protesting at veterans funerals. Shouting out vial phrases how God is happy that their son or daughter is dead. How they deserved to die. Things that you would want to inflict physical harm on them for doing so. Under the first amendment, they have the right to say such things and the Supreme Court recently backed them up on it. The courts also backed up the rights of families to sue the Phelps family and Westboro Baptist Church for personal harm and the families have started to do so.

Patriot Guard Riders is a quiet group of folks that run interference at veteran’s funerals for the families of fallen vet’s and they do a damn great job! We need to put the call out to all of the folks that have a heart to run the same kind of interference for the families of the Joplin, MO tornado victims. Bring a big as life American flag and stand proud between the Westboro Baptist Church protesters and the families while they bury their dead. It wouldn’t hurt to say a few prayers for those still missing too.

Republicans Hear a Who?

Good Morning Papamoka Bloggers - I was VERY HAPPY to read that three more Senate Republicans in key states will not be running again in 2010: Senator George V. Voinovich of Ohio, Senator Sam Brownback of Kansas, and Christopher S. Bond of Missouri. They join Senator Mel Martinez of Florida creating problems for Republicans in 2010.

So far this year, no Democrats have announced plans to retire after the current Senate term. Let's hope it stays that way.

Well, well, I guess GOP strategists and the far right wing-nuts are crapping themselves right now. How are you feeling Rush, Sean and Bill? Nervous? As long as Obama does a good job, and the Democrats in Congress represent the people's interests, then it's clear 2010 is shaping up to be another good year for Democrats.

The GOP has been devastated by losses in two major elections. Most impartial analysts blame Republican policies and George Bush, despite party propaganda to the contrary. The GOP didn't only suffer losses at the top, it also suffered losses at the local and state level. It lost key "red states" and lost party members in the millions nationwide. There is every indication that unless something changes, the party is in serious decline.

A key area of change that most Americans don't notice is how special interests will also change within the beltway's "K Street Culture" of lobbyists and influence peddlers. Those changes are important too, because the country has suffered for years under Republican special interest. Democratic Party special interest groups are not innocent, but overall they are well known to be more representative of the middle-class and average Americans.

Republican lobbyists lose influence and are replaced by Democratic interests. Special interest power shifts away from oil companies, the industrial-military complex and international conglomerates, to more people friendly groups representing the environment, education, health care for all Americans, and state and local interests. The trend will probably last for years.

The remaining Republicans must be feeling the heat. They will be running out of Washington influence, and will ultimately lose their ability to profit from their positions, ending up as the vocal opposition. The far right blow-hards will continue to scream into the winds of change, but will eventually lose power since most polls show Americans leaning Democratic on almost every major issue. It will be a very interesting reversal of fortune, and one that I will enjoy watching unfold.

The far right and FOX "News," along with the far right die-hards that comment on blogs like this one, will continue to blast for years to come, but they will also fade over time. Like the Dr. Seuss classic Horton Hears a Who, Republicans are pathetically struggling to listen for any tiny voices still supporting their positions. Unlike Horton, it's a losing battle. The world is changing, and only the Democratic Party is changing with it.

For those right-wingers who think I'm wrong, remember that it took decades after World War II for the conservatives in Britain to finally acknowledge the British Empire was lost. America has changed in a similar way, and unfortunately it will take just as long for hard-headed conservatives in America to admit the nation has changed, and not in their favor.

100,000 Prove Polls Wrong in MO

This picture of 100,000 people attending an Obama rally in St. Louis, Missouri today pretty much proves that the polls are all out of whack! Missouri has predominantly been a Red State and Obama has proven that there is no such thing as a Red State or Blue State in America once more. If the race and election for President is so tight then how is it that a Democrat like Obama can draw the largest crowd ever in political history in America?

Over at the Wall Street Journal they have this to say on it…

Amy Chozick reports on the presidential race from St. Louis.
Barack Obama attracted 100,000 people at a Saturday rally here, his biggest crowd ever at a U.S. event.

The crowd assembled under the Gateway Arch on a sunny Saturday afternoon to hear Obama speak about taxes and slam the Republicans on economic issues.

Lt. Samuel Dotson of the St. Louis Police Department confirmed the number of attendees piled into the grassy lawn by the Mississippi River.

To be sure, big crowds don’t always signal a big turnout on Election Day. But Obama’s ability to draw his largest audience yet in a typically red state that just weeks ago looked out of reach, could signal a changing electoral map.

For months Missouri polls put Obama as much as ten percentage points behind Republican John McCain. It was widely believed that McCain’s pick of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate would have won over the state’s conservatives and boosted his chances there. So far, that hasn’t happened.

A Rasmussen poll released on Friday shows Obama leading in Missouri 52% to 46% for McCain.
- The Wall Street Journal

I’m beginning to think that the election is not even close when you see such a huge turnout like this one with two weeks to go till the election. If this is the case in Missouri then what is really going on around the rest of the nation? Are other states not showing their true polling numbers and real support for Obama in this election? I’m thinking that the polling industry needs to be looked at seriously and revamped into the cell phone based culture of America. Realistically, this kind of rally for Obama proves the polling numbers could be off by five to ten points easily!

I have to say this story in the Wall Street Journal just blew me away! 100,000 people at one rally isn’t even funny for a Saturday afternoon event in a major city like St. Louis. I can see the spin coming from the McCain campaign that they were all downtown to pay parking fines at city hall or desperately searching for the John McCain St. Louis Headquarters. Ya, thats the ticket!

I’m sorry to say but I don’t trust any of the polling numbers anymore where it calls for a close election by any means in any state. Barack Obama can draw crowds such as this simply because the American people are starving for true leadership, compassion for the less fortunate, and common sense in our next President of the United States of America. All I can say is “Wow!”

I'll post a video of the crowds and the speech from Obama as soon as I find one worthy...

Video Update: Channel 5 KSDK.Com in St. Louis, MO has this video from the crowd at today’s event. Click on the link to the video from the crowd. It wasn't working out as an embed link at the time of this post.
