American Division By Politicians

When you look at any person in America you can see an American if you truly open your eyes.  Almost all of Americans are descendents of an immigrant except for those that are the original people that we now call "American Indian" which I think is wrong.  I call them by their first name.  They return the acknowledgment.

Back in my school days we all had to relearn basic math every single year because somebody in the class didn't pay attention to the facts of math the previous year.  Simple math, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and decimals were foreign information even into some of my high school years.  Every single year I would groan about doing stupid stuff we learned in elementary school because half the class was way behind.

The same thing is happening in national politics with simple division.  If you divide enough of the people into special groups then you divide the nation.  Then all you need to do to get elected is use key phrases to get the misinformed vote.  You tell the rich people that the poor people are to blame for their woes, you tell the poor people that the rich people are to blame for their woes.  Then you pivot and blame the gays for the heterosexuals woes and the opposing argument is that the heterosexuals are to blame for the gay peoples woes.  Then you target immigrants for Americans not being able to find a job and pivot and blame the government for not loosening the immigration laws so businesses can afford to hire cheap labor that hard working Americans refuse to do.  You blame woman for the so called degradation of America because they want their own choice on what is their body when it comes to medical care and turn to support woman... well never.

Last time I checked I was raised an American.  My father fought for this country in two wars and was buried with honors.  The same people that claim they respect veterans want to cut benefits to veterans because it makes them hero's to people that hate the government deficit.  See the pivot there?  But then they want to support military spending that feeds the pockets of big supporters.  See the pivot?

How can a society that was raised by strong woman back any candidate for federal or local office that thinks that a woman is second class and should stay in the kitchen?  How can a society elect someone to a federal office as a congressman or congresswoman that is openly racist against minorities when the congress is the government body that says racism of any kind is illegal?  How can a society elect someone to a federal office that has for years done everything in their power to hurt the poorest of the poor by voting against unemployment extensions, against healthcare for all, against all job programs, against food stamps, against everything that the poorest of our society need.

Our nation is only as good as the way we treat the poorest of our kind.  When we the people forget that and keep electing people that have been paid to forget that, then the American experiment is over.

Division is simple math.  Division is very dangerous in politics for the common good.

Is John McCain Done

Senator John McCain of Arizona might be looking at his last election to the United States Senate if the buzz coming from the Republican Party is on target. Die hard Conservatives are not to happy with their former GOP candidate for the Presidency and the rumor mill around Arizona is leaning towards the thought that Johnny isn’t conservative enough for their liking. McCain’s opponent in the next election is none other than the Jack Abramoff (jailed lobbyist & corruption guru) sweetheart former Congressman J.D. Hayworth who lost his last election bid to the Democrats in 2006. The question to be asked is if Hayworth can unseat the 73 year old Senator in the primary election if McCain holds the Tea Bagger revolt faction and Sarah Palin’s (Fox News Opinion contributor) political support?

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Sipping beer in a noisy bar outside Phoenix, John "Buck" Hayes and his friend Kermit Thompson represent the rift that has made the Republican primary facing Sen. John McCain one of the country's most watched Senate races.

Hayes, 52, speaks reverentially of the four-term senator, describing him as a "steady fighter" who has the clout in Washington to call things as he sees them. Thompson, 70, a former McCain supporter, counters with this: "He's gotten too liberal for me."

Two years after he beat a crowded field to lead the GOP presidential ticket, the 73-year-old McCain is up against what some say is his toughest re-election battle in years as voters in his home state decide whether they want an experienced maverick or a diehard conservative.
- USA Today

One of the talking points on McCain’s re-election viability is the immigration issue where his views are not in line with many of the folks in his states political party. J.D. Hayworth is playing up his difference of opinion with McCain on immigration with every political speech. In a state that has an ongoing issue dealing with illegal immigrants and border patrol, immigration may end up being the issue of this campaign for the Senate that sends John McCain home from Washington.

Political experts in Arizona say the immigration issue, not an intraparty feud, is central to any struggles McCain may face. McCain's support for comprehensive immigration reform, including a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrations already in the country, has hurt him politically in the past, including nearly derailing his presidential bid. Hayworth has derided such reform as amnesty for illegal immigrants.

"It's not a secret that Senator McCain has different feelings on immigration than Hayworth," said Matt Roberts, a spokesman for the Arizona Republican Party. "That's the issue garnering the most amount of attention and people feel strongly on both sides."
- Fox News

On the flip side of the coin are the Democrats who seem to favor the candidacy of Air Force Reservist Rodney Glassman for McCain’s seat with a grass roots effort that features a $20 maximum political donation. Glassman is from the Tucson area where he is a city council member and very active in the local community. Questions abound if Glassman the Democrat can beat Hayworth the Republican in a predominate red state election campaign. That is if of course John McCain is done.

McCain has a Nader

While the Obama campaign has John McBush on the run on what to do about Iraq and Afghanistan the Arizona Senators back yard has been infested with Obamacans. Bob Barr running on the Independent ticket for President is eating into the McCain base and the poll numbers have driven him into the cheap seats of the election process in his own home state. Al Gore would be proud, but then again he lost his own home state to Bush so he isn’t talking to the press on this poll.

Over at the Huffington Post they have this little ditty on the poll results…

In a sign of continued weakness in his home state, an online poll shows Sen. John McCain trailing Sen. Barack Obama by 3-percentage points in Arizona. The poll also shows the candidacy of Libertarian Bob Barr is having a significant impact on McCain's campaign by siphoning off conservative voters nationwide.

The Arizona poll was part of nationwide Zogby International poll that put Obama ahead in total electoral votes with 273 to 160 for McCain. The poll found 11 states with 105 electoral votes too close to call -- including Arizona. McCain's campaign in June included Arizona among its list of swing states. – Huffington Post

I can’t argue with the poll. Nope, I can see where the great people of Arizona see a puppet doll and not a President. While all the main stream media sees this as a Democrat wet dream I have to look at the reality of polls and they don’t mean diddly at this point in the election. Should Obama go to Arizona a couple of dozen times? Hell ya! Should McBush go to Arizona rather than Columbia South America… Depends, how much is dinner going to cost for the guests?

One of the things that piss most politically active people off is where the money comes from to elect a Congressman, a Senator, and a President. Some people criticize Barack Obama for waiving the federal funding match and rightfully so. In the same respect, when you see that many of your contributions which are $5 and $10 are coming from ordinary people in America begging for change then a candidate must consider their voices in everything he is doing on their behalf. Hillary Clinton would have done the same thing if she won the primary process. And Bill would have been the one to tell her not to be stupid because he knows politics better than anyone at the federal level. Who knows, maybe he told Barack the same advice?

Nobody will ever know what kind of promises John McBush made down in Columbia South America or how much money followed him home in contributions sooner or later. One thing is certain, McCain voted against his own bill to change the immigration policy of America after he had a chat with his mentor in the White House. His own damn bill, he wrote it, gave it life in the Senate, fought for it and yet he voted against it? What logical response could ever explain that fact and be actually believable?

I’m going to be looking into the Bob Barr guy and see who he is. If he is able to steal 7% of the vote from McBush in Arizona then he might be able to carry a couple of other key states for Obama and that my friends might be worthy of a donation from yours truly to his political campaign. Politics, it’s like chess, you move pieces, you sacrifice pawns, rooks and even a queen, but the end result is getting your opponents King.

Educating our Illegal Immigrants

Higher education even at a state run college is one step up on the ladder of life for all individuals. All of the life long benefits of that college education will allow any person the ability to make a few more dollars per year because the person invested in themselves first. They become a valuable asset to any company that would hire them. Should this same thought process apply to illegal immigrants though?

Apparently, Governor Deval Patrick thinks it should and he is testing the waters of the corner office in Boston to see if he can authorize reduced tuition for state residents to illegal immigrants.

In-state tuition divisive

Patrick favors illegals break
By Ken Maguire THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

BOSTON— Gov. Deval L. Patrick said yesterday he’s looking into whether he can skirt the state Legislature by unilaterally allowing illegal immigrants to pay in-state tuition at state colleges

Patrick’s revelation touched off strong reaction on Beacon Hill, where House lawmakers two years ago defied Speaker Salvatore F. DiMasi, D-Boston, and defeated a bill that would let those immigrant students pay the same rate as their high school classmates.

“We have had some legal research done to see whether it’s possible to address that question without legislation,” the Democratic governor told an audience of education and business leaders. “The answer to that is by no means clear.”

Snip – jump the border here X

Opposition to the tuition break is rooted in the larger ideological issue of how to address illegal immigration. Opponents say the state shouldn’t be making it easier for undocumented students, who could take higher paying jobs from legal residents.

“I’m amazed that he wants to be the sole person responsible for implementation of the wrong policy for Massachusetts,” said state House Minority Leader Bradley H. Jones Jr., R-North Reading. “The public will be rightly incensed.”

Jones said he hasn’t researched whether the governor can grant the tuition breaks.

“We provide the free public education K-through-12 for these students,” he said. “We’ve already done quite a bit for these students. By doing this, we would add incentives for people to come here. Illegal immigrants do pretty well finding out where the best places for them to go are.”
– Worcester Telegram

Hold the INS deportation bus! This kid is going to UMASS and has a get out of jail card. This kid is going to Fitchburg State, these two are going to Worcester State and those sixty three are all enrolled in Quinsigamond State College. Sorry Mr. Bus driver but that seems to be about everyone on the bus. Carry on sir!

I’m as liberal as they come but even I have my blood boiling over this buffoonery by Governor Patrick. As a parent of five daughters I worry about how the hell I am going to put all of them through college and yet the resources to keep tuition rates down are going to be spent on illegal immigrants? Besides that little scenario it concerns me that this will set a precedent for anyone that wants to come to Massachusetts illegally to have state citizenship recognized by the state which would then toss the legality of all illegal immigrants’ status into the courts.

Granting reduced resident status tuition to illegal immigrants is tantamount to slapping all of the residents of the state in the face. Especially, those that have come here legally from all around the world that has faced the gauntlet of legally immigrating and is in the process of earning their citizenship. Why should someone that broke into this state and this country get a reduced resident tuition rate? Our tax dollars from our jobs and the money we spend as legal residents help to pay the costs of some of the best state colleges in this nation and this proposal by the Governor is a giveaway to legitimate criminals.

I’m Liberal but I’m not stupid. Governor Deval Patrick should put this idea in the draw and never let it see the light of day again. He needs to be realistic and know that the education of all legal residents in the Bay State should always supersede the rights of anyone here illegally. Besides the fact that the reduced rate tuition education could find the benefactor on a bus back to the nation they came from if they are ever found by INS or the proper authorities. Then again are they not going after employers who hire illegal immigrants? Bad idea Deval, real bad!

The Dreaded Immigration Issue

Cross Posted at Bring It On

In years gone by the nation that we call home had no immigration policy and it worked. Right there in the harbor of New York City was the grand lady asking for and welcoming the many that needed a new start in a land that could boast of endless possibilities if you just came to our shores. All of the boats from many nations in Europe and Asia came and our nation survived it because we needed the people to progress the American Experiment.

There is an argument against amnesty and in parts I can somehow understand it but it has faults as well. The media portrays this issue as strictly a Mexican immigrant problem and yes that is a serious problem for the West Coast of the country. And yet the West Coast is a thriving economy given the media built hype of an immigration problem. In the North East of our nation they blame it on European and Asian and South America immigrants and yet we still have a thriving economy. In the South East of our nation they blame it on Central America immigrants and yet there is one hell of a growing economy there as well.

One of the questions that come to the front of my mind is if the illegal immigrants have a legitimate gripe? They do in fact contribute to the success of the American economy no matter how many ways you try to express that their presence is not welcomed. I’m not advocating illegal immigration but when your refrigerator is filled with food and your local economy is good then what is the problem.

Over at the Los Angeles Times they had this to say on today’s May Day demonstration across our nation…

Local marchers join tens of thousands nationwide
By Times Staff Writers
5:21 PM PDT, May 1, 2007

Tens of thousands of advocates for immigrant rights took to the streets in Los Angeles and the rest of the nation today, hoping that passion would offset the smaller turnout from last year's demonstrations.

As they did last year, demonstrators waved U.S. flags and declared their desire to flex economic muscles despite their sharply lower numbers at a time when immigration issues continue on the Washington agenda.

Along with marches in California, demonstrations were reported in New York, Chicago, Detroit and Phoenix as protesters demanded a path for citizenship for an estimated 12 million to 13 million undocumented workers as well as other changes being negotiated within a Democrat-controlled Congress.

In Los Angeles, a morning demonstration started on Olympic Boulevard at Broadway with a handful of protesters, but by midday at City Hall the crowd had grown to more than 25,000 people shouting "Si, se puede!" or "Yes, it can be done!" the Latino rallying cry for political power.

"We have to show Congress that we're good people," said Blanca Duenas, who joined the crowd with her husband Jose. "We're here and we're not leaving."
– LA Times

America is the land of opportunity and most people that live here never get it. The great pizza place down the street owned by a Greek or Italian immigrant is taken for granted. Dropping in to the local gas station or convenience store that is owned by a family from India, Pakistan, Turkey, Korea or England rubs people wrong because we as a people have forgotten what the American dream is really all about. Why do we judge immigrants to our shores badly because they see what our way of life can be financially for their families? We are the ones that don’t get it!

We pay tuition, foreign citizens pay tuition for higher education that creates great minds that amaze the world and in turn they take our higher education system to the next level that is America. Our nation has a huge population of foreign born citizens that come to the birthplace of higher education and creative thought and some go home and some choose to stay either legally or illegally. Our nation benefits with the opening of minds for humanity.

Immigration is an American gift. Some people like to point to the weak border and so called “Wet Backs” and yet do not consider or choose to ignore the gift of our education system and the many from many lands far and wide that contribute to our society at levels that many of us take for granted. Visit an emergency room in any city and there is an attending physician that is from somewhere else.

Immigrants get what America has to offer. We have just forgotten as a people what the dream is truly about.
