Legitimizing any mind altering drug is nearly impossible unless you are a pharmaceutical company or distributor for any alcohol product readily available down at your local liquor store.

Personally, I can’t stand the smell of Pot burning in any form. It gives me a headache and thus I’m not a user. No pills, no crack pipes or whatever else it takes to get a break from reality in this house other than a six pack of Budweiser for yours truly. I like them cold and I like them fresh with a recent born on date. Some folks can not stand the smell of beer or any form of alcohol that causes that little reflex in the back of their throat that lets them taste lunch all over again. I’m not one of them.

I have recently found the pleasure of reading a local blog in Worcester Mass a two sticks called the Worm Town Taxi and the site and writer has a unique perspective. This is what he has to say on the endless money pit or battle on drug trafficking from a local perspective…

California's Biggest Cash Crop

If they made grapes illegal, then grapes would be California's biggest cash crop.

And if there were a set of regulations to legitimize the production and sale of this naturally occuring weed, then we wouldn't have this problem. But we do have small problems like that, in addition to much larger problems involving overcrowded jails, increased crime, and large scale embedded infrastructure that costs upwards of $50 billion a year in tax dollars.

The War On Drugs has never impeded any flow or usage in this country, something that rarely finds its way into the news.

If drugs were legalized and regulated, I still wouldn't use them. I don't even take aspirin. But the fact that California's annual $14 billion cash crop of illegal marijuana surpasses every other crop legitimately grown in that state really ought to tell you something very important and very basic... there are enough people making so much money on illegal drugs in this country that it would be a real blow to all of them if these commodities were suddenly legalized and regulated. - Worm Town Taxi

Jeff has the right thought when it comes to taking the drug trade in Marijuana out of the closet and making it a market driven product with all the same tax dollars that cigarettes have tacked on to them. Maybe it is time that we stop looking over our shoulders when a friend or yourself is smoking a joint or taking a hit on a bong. With our jails being overcrowded in every state for possession or intent to distribute is a joke. I think those cells could be used for far more dangerous criminals like pedophiles, rapist, killers, and cop killers.

Reality and legality is a funny thing in America. Many amongst us are taking a hit but none of us will ever admit it because the law of the land says that you should not do so. “But I did not inhale” is a classic quote of someone that tried it but didn’t like it. This non crisis issue is concerning pot is so large that our government spends billions of dollars a year to stem the flow of illegal drugs like marijuana coming to our shores. Umm, somebody let them know that it is a naturally growing product in all fifty states. Even George Washington grew hemp and for all the crap he had to go through I’m betting that he was stoned half of the time as a General and our first President. I don’t think I need to mention that he had his own distillery running at Mount Vernon but he did. That fact is not common known but it is a fact. You just have to love a party animal like George Washington.

This is not the days of prohibition but then again it is. Drug testing for a job is now common place but it is okay to have every prescription mind altering drug in your blood but if cannabis or hemp as they called it in the 1700’s shows up in the results you do not get the job. Jack Daniel’s is good, pot is bad?

One thing you will not find is any seriously taken political candidate talking about this issues simply because the people that use pot do not vote for the most part. Or do they?

Ergo, the issue is for the most part politically dead.

Sick Kids and Cold Medications

Over the counter drugs for the common cold only mask the symptoms of the cold. I think we all know that. As an adult you are okay to take them but apparently there is a problem giving those same over the counter drugs to your children. We have become a society that trusts the medications at CVS or Walgreen’s over handing the kid an orange or apple every day to eat that naturally combat every day illness that hits our kids. We have become the parents that do not have time for sick kids. Over at the local pharmacy they have the solution in a bottle or pill that will allow junior to go to school because mom or dad can’t afford a day off from work. Literally and monetarily mom and dad can not afford a day off to care for a sick child at home anymore.

Buckle up your seat belts, the government is pulling all of the remedies to eventually get you to work out from under you. Over at MSNBC they have this to say about over the counter medications for your kids…

The girl, now 7, used to come home from day care with the sniffles. “She'd wake up in the middle of the night and we’d mix the medicine with some juice,” says Eshelman, 41, of Bloomfield, N.J. “She would then go back to sleep. We thought it worked, but now I’m not so sure.”

Federal health advisors Friday said over-the-counter cold and cough medicines don't work in children and shouldn't be used for those under 6. Although parents have doled out the liquids and pills for decades, the drugs have never been tested in children. The Food and Drug Administration's panel of experts concluded more studies needed to be done. - MSNBC

Now they tell us! Never tested on children but every single medication in my home says what the dosage should be used for children and they even give the weight just in case you have a tiny child by age or a child with big bones so to speak.

Here is a clue, the government never looked at the medications and whom would actually use them the most. I’m guilty of giving my children cold or flu medicine when the symptoms were at there worst. I followed the dosage by the child’s weight and age like a good parent. What parent wants to see their child suffer? Duh… other than Brit-a-ninny Spears …. None!

My mind wanders to why they are coming out with this retraction of FDA regulated drugs that are safe to sell over the counter last week but not this week? We the people will probably never know that answer because it is best that we do not know for fear of panic by the masses. God forbid that a parent should know that they were harming their children that was sanctioned by the FDA for years. Do you think that the cold and flu product benefactor industry would warn parents that their products were not tested on children or even young mice? What else hasn’t been tested on our nations children that we as parents give to them based on the product label?

Top of the grocery list goes oranges, apples, pears, and a bunch of other fruits and vegetables that our parents insisted that we eat to live a healthy life. I’m going to miss the hours of sleep I had when one of the girls was sick and a teaspoon of instant over the counter cure let them rest. But then again if they eat the stuff their bodies really need then maybe they won’t be that sick after all?

Back in the day, long before dirt was invented, mom used to stock up on fruits and vegetables when one of us came down with any bug. Having seven children she knew how to run interference when the latest and greatest health issue hit her family. She didn’t open up a can of chicken soup from Campbell’s, she made it from scratch. Tons of fresh vegetables, one or two whole chickens and lots of potatoes and salt. Whatever else she put in it kept the rest of us healthy.

Stashing the parental must have cold and flu medications is on my list of things to do. Not trusting the FDA when it comes to my kids and any medication even if administered by a highly educated physician is at the top of my list of things to watch out for.

Has the FDA been sold out to the highest bidder? It would not surprise me given the fact that everything else under this current administration is up for sale. What kind of government do we have anymore? Can we trust any of the medications anymore? Should our nations doctors trust them anymore? Lot’s of what ifs here and I’m not trusting any of the bastards. I love my kids to much to have any faith in what medication is okay for my kids to take and what is not. I’m questioning all of the over the counter products now and so should you.

Before you give your child a Tylenol or an Asprin or whatever an adult takes for any illness, read the product label and dosage carefully.

When it comes to our government spending money to stop trafficking in drugs across our border for some odd reason I don’t think it is a good idea to hand the government of Mexico BILLIONS of dollars to do so! Yes, I said “DO SO!“ Call me an idiot but is there not tons of stories and links to the corruption riddled government that is directly linked to the Mexican government. For that matter our own government is riding the grey area of legality all over the place lately simply because everyone else is getting away with it.

Common sense tells me that if you do not want your house robbed you do not pay the thieves off to not rob you to begin with. You grab the home run baseball bat that you still have from your little league days and you defend your home and border to keep the drugs out. Signing a check out for cash to an intruder was not part of my upbringing? Apparently, the White House has another opinion according to the Washington Post…

Increased Enforcement Disrupts Drug Supply From Mexico, White House Says

MEXICO CITY, Oct. 1 -- Mexico's crackdown on drug cartels and stepped-up U.S. border enforcement have disrupted the flow of illegal drugs and caused cocaine supply shortages in 37 U.S. cities, including Washington, according to a report scheduled for release Tuesday by the White House drug policy office.

Cocaine prices have nearly doubled in some cities and soared from a nationwide average of $95.89 a gram during the first quarter of this year to $118.70 in the second quarter, the report says. Law enforcement officials track drug supply levels in part by monitoring prices. Rising prices typically indicate reduced supplies.

"This is historic progress," John Walters, director of the White House drug policy office, said in a telephone interview from Washington on Monday. "We've never worked better together."

Walters also said that "we're a couple of days away from releasing details" of a massive aid package to help Mexico fight drug cartels. "We're finalizing things."

The aid package is expected to be the largest U.S. anti-drug endeavor overseas since the 2000 launch of Plan Colombia, a multibillion-dollar campaign designed to eradicate coca and erode support for Marxist rebels. The Mexico proposal, which will likely require congressional approval, will probably have two phases, a top Bush administration official said Monday. The first phase, which would include money for training and equipment, would be "just shy of $1 billion," the official said.

Independent of the aid package, the Bush administration says it is engaged in reshaping its drug strategy along nearly 2,000 miles of the U.S.-Mexico border. The strategic counter-narcotics plan, which Walters plans to release Tuesday in San Diego after meeting with state, federal and local law enforcement officials, calls for more efficient distribution of information among U.S. agencies and for sharing more information with Mexican law enforcement. - Washington Post

Mexico is going to share the information on drug trafficking enforcement after they cash the check? I’m ROFLMFAO over this one. Paying off another corrupt government is the answer for this President and it will never work. This policy is from the same administration that will not fund no child left behind? Would it not make more sense to spend the money on the future and our children’s anti drug education rather than pay off the Cartel’s through a Mexican government broker? Maybe the Congress should look at saving the drug cartels the broker payment fees and just electronically transfers the BILLIONS directly to the drug cartels.

Bush will not look at health care for our families but he is willing to spend BILLIONS in Mexico for a drug policy that is more or less offsetting the losses that the Cartels are suffering due to stronger boarder patrols. As much as I would like to think that this might work, all I see is money down the tubes. Gone, check was cashed, no identification needed. Here is your free toaster Mr. Bush!

Follow the money and you too will see the joke that this really is. Bush, like his father before him as President is chucking the bird at the people at home. Money that comes from American taxpayers will be spent at the will of the President and if his popularity at home is not good enough for us, maybe Mexico will have him? We can only hope.
