Moving Healthcare Forward
Things in the healthcare debate are fired up and finally the left side of the aisle is coming back from summer vacation. It’s a given that the right wing attack on healthcare is in the last gasps for breath when Joe Lieberman comes out begging that the congress tackle this whole scenario in smaller bites. Wait till the economy recovers, or the recession is over, or till pigs fly. Well jumping parties Joe, Swine Flu is here and that meets one of the criteria for me to get it all done NOW!
Now is the time for all you vacationing Dem’s, and Liberal’s, and self declared whacko Leftie’s, to get on board the peace train and contact your elected leaders in the congress.
I noticed over the past few weeks that many of the people against healthcare have showed up for these town halls with some pretty anti American slogans. All the power to them, matter of fact, please keep it up. Left leaning blogs like this one can always use material of someone declaring themselves right wing with a swastika poster in hand. It doesn’t matter how you carry it or the message you wanted it to send, it still is an abomination to democracy no matter how loud you yell or scream.
We on the left side of the aisle can do better and just buy a ticket on the peace train. Call, email, or even write a letter to your congressional members in the house and senate. All aboard!
Hello Papamoka Bloggers - I have to add my two cents to Papamoka's regarding Joe Lieberman. Personally, I think he needs to GO, and GO NOW!
I guess we should have expected it. After Harry Reid met with Joe Lieberman yesterday to express his dissatisfaction over his campaign behavior, Lieberman is now talking to Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) about the possibility of caucusing with the GOP.
Reid is considering taking Lieberman's committee and subcommittee chairmanships away from him. In my opinion he should. How could Democrats trust Lieberman now? How could they even consider letting that guy caucus with them? The man would rat them out to the Republicans in a heartbeat.
According to the Huffington Post, a Lieberman aide, who requested anonymity, said today that "Lieberman and McConnell have spoken in recent days about the possibility of Lieberman joining the GOP conference."
I personally think Lieberman sold us out during the campaign. He claims to be a Democrat in everything except defense. What the "F" does that mean? Democrats are not soft on terror. Why didn't he just try to encourage improvements while working within our ranks?
I think it's because he wanted McCain or any Republican over a Democrat. Who knows why? I'm sure he has his crazy reasons. It's probably something to do with Israel and Middle East policy. Personally I don't see much of a difference between the parties in those areas.
I hope he enjoys his time with the Republicans, because they're not known for welcoming turn-coats. They will treat him pretty bad. He certainly won't have much influence. He will lose his committees, most of his power, and ultimately look foolish for his failure. What a moron.
I say good riddance. Get rid of him. Toss the tosser. The man is a traitorous scumbag. He turned his back on his party and his constituents. He needs to be FLUSHED!
As you already know, Senator Joe Lieberman, former Democrat and now an Independent, soon to be a Republican, supported John McCain for President enthusiastically. That is fine, I don’t have a problem with his choice for President. What I do have a problem with is his blatant about face stating that he is going to support President Elect Obama today. There are far to many videos out there showing Joe (Not the Plumber) bashing Barack Obama, liberalism and even being a Democrat. Far too many videos are out there showing Joe Lieberman supporting not just John McCain but Republican candidates for Congress and the Senate at McCain rallies. It would be like a life long Red Sox fan showing up at your house to watch the baseball game with a N.Y. Yankees hat, shirt, jacket and his car is plastered with Yankee bumper stickers? No offense to New York Yankee fans intended. Feel free to swap the analogy around. How does a Democrat Vice President Candidate in 2004 all of a sudden go underground and emerge a Republican four years later?
The head of the Senate Harry Reid had a little sit down with Joe Lieberman today and I tend to think it was not a two way conversation. Harry talked and Joe listened. My personal thanks to Crooks and Liars for inspiring this post. Here it is from the Associated Press on You Tube…
It sounds to me like good old Joe (not the Plumber) has been told that his committee chair (Homeland Security, Armed Services, Environment & Public Works, and Small Business) seats will be given to loyal supporters of the President elect but his status on the Democrat Caucuses is still up to the members of the Senate to decide.
You can not expect political support and committee chairs in the political party in control of the Congress when you trashed the President Elect with lies on the campaign trail for John McCain. Using the tactics of deception, lies, manipulating facts to suit your purpose, and just out right being untruthful will always bite you in the ass eventually in politics. Joe Lieberman proved himself to be a political traitor to his party just as Zel Miller of Georgia did the last Presidential election. You don’t hear much about good old Zel anymore do you? In politics at this level, when you pull a Benedict Arnold, you better hope to hell your candidate wins. In Joe Lieberman’s situation, his candidate did not win.
Politics is a cut throat business at pretty much any level and it just seems the costs are higher in the Senate and the House. Joe placed his allegiance with John McCain and he lost. Others that placed their loyalty to Obama and the Democrats won. Joe Lieberman should lose his committee chair seats so that those that worked for victory for our new President can serve him and his political ideology best. It happens every two and four years regardless and it is how politicians weed out the weakest links to push through the legislation of the political party in control.
I don’t have one ounce of sympathy for Joe Lieberman when he comes up for re-election in two years and loses. I’m sure he will do well in the private sector as a lobbyist. Then he can be Independent in politics as Joe McCarthy was a Communist sympathizer.
