Liberal Bloggers Pissed at Dems

Writing for a blog or online journal isn’t always fun and it certainly does not pay even the electric bill every single month. Papamoka Straight Talk has been around for three plus years and I have had fun with it and I think improved my writing abilities in the journey. Over the years I have made friends with many of the big blogs but for the most part I have found many new friends in the small personal blogs. In my eyes they are all the same size on the old computer monitor no matter how much traffic they have every single day.

Democrats and the liberal agenda media pushed bloggers like yours truly and others into the limelight in the past two elections when they sought our help to get the message out to the people. Bloggers on the left side of the political spectrum dove in willingly and some of us ended up as guests on many television news magazines because of the pulse and heartbeat of our readers. Daily Kos aka Markos Moulitsas appeared numerous times on MSNBC and so did John Amato of Crooks and Liars. Many of the writers and bloggers went to bat for the Democrats during the campaigns of many Democrats and some might say that we swayed the opinion just far enough for America to elect its first African American President.

You might be saying to yourself right now, “This clown is full of himself” but I ask you to hear me out. I give Karl Rove credit for being a political genius because he is. Only a genius could get an illiterate President elected twice. The genius of Rove was to keep pounding home the same message over and over again. Rove honed the talking points for Bush and every question or thought out of President Bush’s mouth was based on that message. Bush didn’t have an answer for every question but all of the questions were answered with the same message. Tax cuts, Terrorists, and Patriotism.

Bloggers did just that for Obama and many of the Democrats now serving in Washington. Bloggers pounded on the race question repeatedly, bloggers pounded on the war in Iraq being wrong repeatedly, and bloggers pounded on Republican’s relentlessly.

Now the big liberal bloggers are wondering where is their piece of the money pie from all that hard work? Dem’s are not spending money in the bloggosphere? Bloggers are not benefiting from the push that we gave the political movement and they are pissed.

Big Liberal Bloggers Tee Off On Progressive Groups For Not Sharing Ad Wealth

Some of the leading liberal bloggers are privately furious with the major progressive groups — and in some cases, the Democratic Party committees — for failing to spend money advertising on their sites, even as these groups constantly ask the bloggers for free assistance in driving their message.

It’s a development that’s creating tensions on the left and raises questions about the future role of the blogosphere at a time when a Dem is in the White House and liberalism could be headed for a period of sustained ascendancy.

Snip - Snap

“Most want the easy way — having a big blogger promote their agenda,” adds Markos Moulitsas, the founder of DailyKos. “Then they turn around and spend $50K for a one-page ad in the New York Times or whatever.” Moulitsas adds that officials at such groups often do nothing to engage the sites’s audiences by, say, writing posts, instead wanting the bloggers to do everything for them.

The behind-the-scenes tensions go to the heart of the role these bloggers have created for themselves in Democratic politics — they’re basically advocates and operatives with big platforms — and their future role, too. They argue that their efforts and fundraising helped drive the Democratic ascendancy. Yet even the Dem party committees are reluctant to advertise with them, raising the question of whether the party will ever be willing to seriously invest long-term in this new media infrastructure.
- The Plum Line

Just to make a point, I have backed the cause of the Democrats and I also back the cause of my brothers and sisters in arms that are bloggers. My biggest advertiser is Google and I love that they do all the work for me lining up advertisers. Sites like the Daily Kos, Crooks and Liars, they are run like a business, and like any business they need to meet a payroll and keep the lights on.

It just doesn’t wash with me that the Democrats begged bloggers to go to bat for them and then cashed their political donation checks where it will never pay off? It’s like tossing a twenty dollar bill at a statue in hopes that it will keep the pigeons away from your new car when you could have bought three car wash coupons with the same cash.

This reminds me, I need to set up a tip jar so Mr. Soros and Mr. Buffet can thank me personally. Or for that matter they could email me and I’d give them the snail mail address.

***My thanks to Crooks and Liars and many other well known liberal blogs for picking up many of the posts here at Papamoka over the years. Gun Toting Liberal, my twin brotha from anotha motha, has his two cents worth on this topic too!

David Hazinski aka Real Reporter

All over the blogoshpere the weapon of choice is the keyboard on a personal PC in order to slay the mighty professor of “real journalism”. Somebody regarding this whole issue has a very high opinion of himself and frankly he just might have the credentials to speak. Dictators and Professors are like that. My way or the highway.

According to Professor Hazinski, we (Bloggers) are all hackers of the English language and we imagine facts and figures and propagate lies. When we are wrong, we never post a correction. Bloggers have a private agenda that needs to be regulated according to the distinguished Professor.

Having just anyone produce widely distributed stories without control can have the reverse effect from what advocates intend. It's just a matter of time before something like a faked Rodney King beating video appears on the air somewhere.

Journalism organizations should head that off. Citizen reports can be a valuable addition to news and information flow with some protections:

• Major news organizations must create standards to substantiate citizen-contributed information and video, and ensure its accuracy and authenticity.

• They should clarify and reinforce their own standards and work through trade organizations to enforce national standards so they have real meaning.

• Journalism schools such as mine at the University of Georgia should create mini-courses to certify citizen journalists in proper ethics and procedures, much as volunteer teachers, paramedics and sheriff's auxiliaries are trained and certified.

Journalists generally don't like any kind of standards or regulation. Many argue that standards could infringe on freedom of the press and journalism shouldn't be regulated.
But we have already seen the line between news and entertainment blur enough to destroy significant credibility. Continuing to do nothing as information flow changes will further erode it. Journalism organizations who choose to do nothing may soon find the line between professional and citizen journalism gone as well as the trust of their audiences.

Not long ago I was honored to be a contributing writer for one of the most realistic “Blog’s” on the entire internet. During my time writing there I got to know the owner of the site and frankly, I consider him to be my close friend and a brother. I’m talking about the site called Gun Toting Liberal. Where facts and opinions are drawn from and debated by many well written articles in the Main Stream Media (MSM). Many of the comments on the site are from very well versed readers and combined they debate the issues on their merits. Something you can not do with a television broadcast, newspaper or news magazine.

When it comes to political opinion, the GTL and I do not see eye to eye on all issues but that is half the fun of debating real issues. Has he changed my opinion on some issues, yes he has. Have I changed his opinion on some issues, yes, I like to think that I have.

Over at the Gun Toting Liberal he clearly states what he thinks about the Professors comments and I happen to agree with him…

We ARE the “Press” they spoke of, Mr. Hazinski — NOT you and your biased mainstream media. The town criers. The suspicious Citizens with a pen, sneaking around, playing “gotchya” with our government leaders — THAT’S what a “journalist” does, sir. When you and your multi-national, huge, biased corporations failed to do this, you not only forced our Founding Fathers to roll in their graves, you lost your status as the “Press” and “journalists” and the respect of the American People. You don’t like it, I’m sure. After all, your so-called “profession” is a shrinking and outdated one and your livelihood is in jeapordy. Why? Because the “Press” our Founding Fathers protected in the Constitution had little to do with the concept of people becoming fat, lazy, rich and biased while sitting on their pasty rear ends with a pen. - Gun Toting Liberal

Based on how I write here at Papamoka Straight Talk and from what I have learned from other great “Blog’s”, David Hazinski has probably only visited angry bloggers afflicted with anger management issues. Sites where opposing opinions are met with personal attacks and name calling.

Maybe he needs to visit reality and understand that the American people no longer trust the MSM because they are all biased and rightfully so. They are running a business and making a living from the written word they produce. That is where the difference becomes known between the MSM and bloggers like GTL and myslef. Most bloggers write and report as opinion journalist and never receive a dime for it. Raising my hand here. Three plus years of writing online and still no checks in my mail box.

While the revenue generating machines that are the MSM play to the advertisers and report accordingly they are swayed to slant the stories they provide. Fox swings from its side of the batters box and NBC swings from its. Somewhere in the middle is the general truth and that is what we as bloggers debate on a daily basis.

Sit down Professor, you my friend are yesterdays news and we will leave it at that.

Chell's Roost

Every once in a while you come across a great web site that leads you to many other interesting sites. Just by chance and by commenting on a piece here I found an unbelivably great site!

My first thoughts were that I wanted to put this great new site that I stumbled on up on my own site . Blogger is having technical problems and I can't add anything to my template page. According to the error message it is an Adsense problem that is effecting all templates. I hope to hell that somebody at Blogger is talking to the people at Google to fix this problem right away.

Let's get all the people from Blogger with pocket protectors and all the people from Google Adsense with pocket protectors in the same room and fix it quick

Please check out my newest contribution to my Links I Recommended list Chell's Roost. As soon as I can edit my template that is.

My personal thanks to Chell for linking here and at Raising Kids in America.
