Joe Biden's Net Worth
Chris Matthews over at MSNBC and of Hardball fame has this story on the Net Worth of Joe Biden back in 2007. This will not play well over at the McCain campaign as they try and paint him and Obama as eletist.
This is going to be one hell of an election. I can't wait for the one line zingers that Joe Biden is famous for. Check back here for more commentary on this election race... Each of the DNC convention speakers will be covered.

That info on Senator Biden's net worth caught our attention as well. It makes a sharp contrast with Senator McCain and former Governor Romney!
I'm thinking that the Obama campaign should do an ad on McCain's net worth and Romney's just for giggles. That would show people who is more in line with the pain and suffering of trying to survive in the conspiracy laden W Bush world of $4.00 oil. A few weeks back I saw a piece on Obama's net worth and between his wife and he, they sit around just over $1 million. Still note worth but 99% lower than the McCain's.
Joe Biden makes at least 5 times as much as my wife and I make and we have a net worth much higher than what Biden reports. He either uses the laws he has helped write for the last 35 years in the Senate to hide his worth, like putting everything in his wife or childrens name, or he isn't very good at budgeting his income. Both options highlite the type of person we don't need telling us how to live our lives.
I have to disagree on whether we need a guy like Joe Biden as a VP Anon. We face a world that now looks at America as an invader and no amount of facts can ever change that.
From what I have read, and viewed, Biden put on a second mortgage to put all of his kids through college and I'm betting it was very expensive colleges. News reports over the weekend also showed that he maintains his elderly mothers home and care. I also belive that I read that he owed a ton of debt from his previous runs for President and paid the debt off personally.
We totally agree with anonymous and identify with his/her assessment of Joe Biden's reported net worth, in that it must be much higher than he is reporting. Hope there is an investigation into where he's hiding it. Why is he to be admired when after holding a government position (or any job) for 35 years, he can only boast a mediocre net worth. So he took out a second mortgage to pay for his kid's college education? Did they ever hear about academic scholarship? Or good old fashioned "work"? Our daughter earned a full scholarship working as a manager for her college varsity team for four years. Long and hard hours. Also was elected president of student government in her senior year, earning her an additional scholarship. She earned two additional half scholarships which she gave back to the school so that other students would benefit from them. And when did it become unacceptable to own more than one home? How many homes do the Kennedy's own? We own time shares - is this considered second and third homes? We also invest in REITS (real estate investment trusts) in our IRA's. Does this count as additional homes? DUH!!
Maybe it is simply because Joe Biden is honest. I could offer any circumstance as to why his net worth is so low but I would lend severe credence to the simple fact that he paid off his previous campaigns debt with his (unworthy) governement salary. Is that not the honorable thing to do? I don't know the facts behind his net worth and I tend to think that only he and his wife know those facts. Do you know? It's none of our business what they do with the money they make or how they spend it.
I highly congratulate you on raising your children in a stong work ethic. Those scholarships are exeptional but that is not the status quo for all students. Otherwise the higher education system in America would collapse in bankruptcy. All of those C and D student's parents are paying the bills that keeps the Proffesors in a job.
One last thought, how many cars do you own? If you can answer that question off the top of your head then Senator McCain should have been able to answer how many houses he owns. It is a simple question! Drop politics out of the question completely and their is reasonable doubt.
Please don't use the "Duh" refrence on this site to any commentor in a reply that is in response to political opposing opinion. It does not serve to move the discussion forward.
Otherwise, great response!
We own one car and one golf cart; but as you said, its none of our business what they do with the money they make and how they spend it.
I've read that Joe Biden's debt was covered when his home was bought for well over it's market value; that a company CEO "convinced" his top executives via an internal memo to each contribute $1,000 to retire his debt, thereby not violating the rule of large contributions from large corporations; that he only co-signed his sons college loans and that after graduation from Yale, his son was hired by said corporation, given a high profile job and that neither the company nor Joe Biden will reveal any of the details regarding t"favor". How does this sit with the "average" wage earner?
Research your thoughts and post a link here. I'll keep it up as legitimate debate with a link from a legitiamte news source. Blogs and opinion pieces do not count. Research the truth and comment away.
By the way, let me know the next time you are actually in Florida? According to my Stat Counter there has not been even one hit from Florida in the past four hours.
I checked out your history as a blogger and you do not exist as a Blog Spot Blogger according to the link that your comments refer to.
This is all new to me. I have never blogged before. I was taken aback by the statement from Chris Mathews tonight regarding Joe Biden's net worth and wanted to do some research when I came across your blog. I really don't know what a blog spot blogger is. I'm still trying to get the hang of this.
You can email me at the links provided in the site. I'd provide the link but I get far to many opportunities to drag millions of dollars out of some place in Africa every single day.
I would be glad to help you out with blogging in this format.
And I thank you for the debate. Check out some of the links in the sidebar and especially the Gun Toting Liberal. He is the greates source of opinion of Liberalism, Centrist, Moderates, and Independents. Then every once in a while he goes commando and is Republican... not often, but he has his momments in the moderate side of the spectrum of political opinion. I was a contributor a few days back and he is my brother from another mother in the blog world down in Alabama.
Thank you for finding Papamoka and I hope you come back for more thoughts on this upcoming election and then past that...
the elite in this country control 20% of all the wealth. That means the government only favors the rich, their criminals friends, and the large corporations that profit from war.
My vote is for Obama.
for all those that claim he has no experience, let me ask you a question. What has experience brought the past 8 years???
Record oil prices, an illegal war in Iraq that has killed hundreds of thousands of innocent people, while the top 1% make 20% of all the wealth.
at the same time the middle class working families are getting screwed with record prices, from food, insurance, oil, and other necessities to survive.
So vote for McCain, the status quo, and nothing will change. It will be business as usual. The rich will continue to get richer, and the rest will see their wages decline.
I too was shocked when they mentioned Biden's net worth. I do not want a guy like that involved in our economic decisions at a time like this, especially since they want to roll back the tax laws that will increase corporate taxes and mine as well. Companies need that extra cash in order to create possible jobs...not send more of our jobs across our borders. Why do people not understand this simple rule of business? I'll admit I'm not a McCain fan, but Obama is not ready. It would be like a recent college graduate running Microsoft. Give him 8 more years of experience and I will vote for him. I don't get this whole Democrat B.S. about representing the poor. Most of the Democrat supporters are extremely wealthy people and living the high life...and acting like they give a care about the poor, welfare, etc.
How can Biden be in the Senate for thirty-six years and not have a higher net worth? I think this is a big negative. If he can't handle his personal finances better, why should I trust him with the countries finances? I thought economics was supposed to be one of his "strengths". Of course, he has no worries because he knows he will retire with a nice fat government pension.
From CNN.com (http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/05/17/candidates.wealth/index.html):
"In the FEC reports, candidates are not required to list certain assets, such as primary residences and other property owned for non-investment purposes. The reports include personal financial information for candidates, spouses and dependent children."
This is why Biden's net worth sounds ridiculously low. So in actuality, McCain's "net worth", when you count all 7 (more or less!) of his residences and vacation homes, is probably astronomical.
Since when is it a 'good' to be below average. I'm 28, been working for 4 years earning an average of $50k/year, and my net worth is $80k+. Biden has been a Delaware senator making a very nice salary (currently around $160k) for over 35 years. If he was financially responsible, he'd have a net worth well over 10 times his annual income by now. Another financially illiterate duo in the White House is the last thing we need right now. Unfortunately, I don't know if McCain will do much better. And it won't ever change because we won't elect anyone that says they want to cut spending and raise taxes, which unfortunately is what I think this country needs.
My folks are school teachers with 3 kids and they saved 6 times Biden's networth by Biden's age.
Do not let Biden get anywhere close to managing other peoples money - Biden cannot manage his own money.
I don't think it's a crime in America to be "poor". If Biden is supporting his mother in a nursing home, more power to him. In case one hasn't noticed, there is alot of debt going around.
As to the other issue of McCain having a rich wife, are we still in America? And did everyone forget about John Kerry's wife - Teresa Heinz!!!
