GOP Intends to Swift Boat America's Health Care Reform

Good Morning Papamoka Bloggers! I need to point out a new GOP scumbag who is leading the charge against health care for all Americans. His name is Rick Scott, and he recently founded a group called Conservatives for Patients' Rights. Like all GOP organizations, the name has nothing to do with the mission.

Let's just say he's one more greedy asshole that has decided to go to war against the best interest of millions of Americans - not unlike the GOP when you think about it. All kidding aside, the man is human excrement in the way he seeks to destroy an initiative being developed by multiple concerned groups to solve a very important national crisis.

Opposition is one thing, but propaganda is completely different, and that's what they intend to create. It's true, Scott and his GOP operatives intend to "swift boat" health care reform. They are supposedly receiving millions in donations from those who currently profit from America's broken health care system. It's disgusting!

The Washington Post reports that he is working with CRC Public Relations, which is the illustrious group that masterminded the "swift boat" attacks against 2004 Democratic presidential candidate John F. Kerry. They also created the "Harry and Louise" propaganda ads that helped torpedo health-care reform during the Clinton administration.

Scott is a multimillionaire investor and former hospital executive, who has made millions profiting from an industry that can no longer afford to pay him. Unfortunately, greedy bastards like Scott do not go quietly into the night. They fight tooth and nail to hold on to their dirty money, seeking to pig out at the trough for as long as possible. People's lives be damned! They are no better than war profiteers in my opinion.

Most industry analysts will tell you that people like Scott - who make millions/billions from health care - profit at the expense of both patients and actual health care.

I don't know about you, but I'm tired of the "it's just business" attitude that so many Americans cling to. We need to call out people like Scott and brand them for maintaining a cold and uncaring health care system. Their quest for profits leads to millions of unnecessary deaths - only the disingenuous and coldest of hearts would deny it.

Scott is the only notable so far spending as much as $5 million of his own money and - according to The Washington Post - as much as $15 million in donations to create a resistance to any government-run program. You know, the kind of program designed to help those Americans who can't afford private health insurance, or who have pre-existing conditions. The ones the GOP wants to ignore and allow to die.

This charming group of heartless Republicans need to be isolated and attacked for their deceitful opposition to a reasonable, industry-wide solution. The latest GOP "swift boat" initiative needs to be isolated and mocked before it can burrow it's way into the brains of America's uninformed electorate. In other words, I hope somebody does something to "swift boat" them before they do too much damage.

Let's face it people, greedy bastards like Scott want to profit from your losses. In almost every instance, they seek to maintain broken systems that earn them billions in profits, at the expense of a better system that would give most Americans a better quality of life.

The GOP is trying to kill something that most Americans want, in addition to most businesses. America's health care costs - resulting mainly from private company profits - are out-of-control. We need President Obama and the Democrats to succeed. I will be writing more about this over the months ahead, but for now I think it's important to simply point out who the scoundrels are who seek to deny us something that we need very badly - it could mean life and death.

Papa,

This guy, although never charged with a crime had authorities in two states looking to nail him. On top of that he was Dubya's partner in the Texas Rangers Ballpark wherein both screwed the public.
He's go $$$ and knows he's got more ink in his well than the opposition.

Good bloc.

It should also be noted that Mr. Scott oversaw payment of the largest fine ever rendered against an American Corporation, HCA, to the tune of $1.5B. Although not individually indicted, he lost his job(with a $10M golden parachute) and under different political circumstances, might still be answering to stockholder lawsuits. If there has ever been any doubt about the lack of wisdom associated with an orgnization as judged by its' selection of senior management, then this is it.

I love you liberals. Everything the GOP plans to do, hopes to do, talks about, so on and so forth is just trash to you all. We are always wrong. We are always seeking profit. We don't believe in the Constitution or anything. We aren't just opposing socialism in America, we are oppressing the masses.

I have had to deal with expensive health care for myself and my wife, even as a soldier we still have bills to pay. And you know what? I forked over the money because I don't depend on the government to pay my bills regardless that I am a soldier or not. Yea it would be nice is soldiers had full medical coverage, we do in some cases, but in things like what I had to get taken care of...that was all on me.

Universal health care is a majorly flawed system. Doctors pay ridiculous amounts of money to get their education, then they have ridiculous bills to cover while being doctors. In this majestic system that your liberal leaders propose all of that doesnt matter. Instead it only matters that the government will take care of you. Hmm, a bit unconstitutional there isnt it? The fact that our government isnt even supposed to have as much power as it has is already appalling, but the fact you want to grant them more illegal power over the people just blows my mind.

I will say it like you say it to the GOP organizations. ALL of the liberal finger pointer groups are seeking profit and recognition themselves, extreme propaganda and SPI group payouts allowed. You disgust me, all of you, that you push a major American value of right to opinion aside because you think the other side of the house is always and completely wrong.
You are the cowards.

Dan, the idea that you think we are seeking profit is downright twisted - at the very least completely WRONG! We moderates/liberals want people to get access to health care - unlike your crowd. We have EMPATHY for those who cannot afford it or who have pre-existing conditions. Your characterization is completely WRONG! Universal health care in a competitive (public/private) environment is VERY healthy. What are you afraid of? Are you afraid of being offered health insurance at a better price - and that is a better value? Stop slamming the door shut before the alternative option launches. Aren't you Republicans all about the market? Then go with the market - whether public or private. Michael

The basic necessity of any capitalist *IE Americans* is profit. I would love lower insurance rates, but not at the expense of me paying taxes so that some lazy noncontributing member of society, or some non-tax payers, or illegals, or rich can benefit.

I already oppose all taxes on income as violations to the Constitution. So why would I agree to pay into a government system that continues the legacy of crime? It is not the governments responsibility to provide health care to the population. Their only responsibility is to safe guard our Constitution, or borders, and our rights and freedoms. They obviously have gone outside their playing field for a long time. And I draw the line in the sand with corrupt programs like this.

You don't think that some already overpaid democrat politician doesnt already have a plan to make money off of this? Hmm, raise taxes in certain areas to be able to afford health care to everyone *a failed system in other countries*...oh yea look I can allot some money over here to this program or my own pocket.

Politicians are corrupt, end of story, and liberals are not all good. If they really think the people deserve more money back they would start dropping their already too high pay checks. They are PUBLIC SERVANTS, so why do we allow them to get more money than the average Joe?

Why would I support this program? I work hard to provide for my family, I dont expect the government to give me hand outs. No matter if I wear this uniform or not, I still dont expect hand outs. I work hard and save and manage my money to take care of myself.

tooshay Dan. I have no problem with lowering the cost of healthcare and reforming it. But I don't want to see a single payer system where the elderly are left untreated because they are going to die anyway or you can't get a knee replacement over the age of 55. Or you go in a lottery for a root canal.
Again to Dan's point this new party of so-called democrats are looking for too much power that they were accusing Bush of . The only difference is they want it over us and not terrorists.
Problem with this is nobody wants to have real debate over it until it's too late and it happens to them.
That is why we who are against it know the consequences and will be prepared for what is to come unlike the "useless idiots" who think we are headed for a Utopia.

I wasn't calling anyone here a "idiot" I was just using a

Nobody's talking about freaking hand-outs. This discussion is going nowhere. Until you guys stop making stuff up we can't talk about this in a reasonable way. There are MANY examples where the federal government provides alternatives to free enterprise, and does it in responsible - non-corrupt - way. There are many "socialistic" prorams in our country, and most of them work very well. Stop twisting the facts to seem like something they're not. MB

Let me get this thought process straight Dan and Lisa, you don't want socialized medicine? So are you also going to forego taking Social Security when you retire from working your entire life and the company you worked so hard to make sucessful hands you a gold watch and a happy retirement cake? And that is it for you?

I think both political parties realize that our medical system in this country sucks. Not only can corporate America keep up with the ever increasing costs of healthcare plans, even the health care providers can't. The system is broke, needs to be torn apart and rebuilt from scratch. Dan, Lisa, Michael and myself can not afford health care that rises by double digit costs every single year. It is busting our nation from the inside out.

One last thought, President Obama isn't talking about a one payer system as far as everything I've read on the topic. If you have a health coverage plan, you keep it, you keep your same doctors, nothing changes for you. If you don't have health coverage, you get coverage by cost savings of all insurers by not having emergency rooms used and abused which raises all of our premiums year after year with no end in sight.

The system is broken when a basic family plan costs me $900 per month and my employer pays 25% of that. And the cost is going up another $186 per month. The system is broken and it is and will collapse on itself if not treated with the seriousness it deserves.

Great post Michael!

Like I said PAPA I would like to see some reform with lower costs but I think this a first step towards socialized medicine and I am not sure you would be comfortable with your children with limited access to specialists if need be or sit on a waiting list.
That will cost you just as much or more out of your paycheck with sub-prime care.
The government competing with private insurance companies can easily put them out of business which just leaves government.
I would like to hear a good plan from the medical community and the insurance companies and if it takes government to bring them to the table then fine but I don't want to see them involved in the bidding process. And being I paid into SS all my life I would expect to get something but then again it was just another ponzi scheme run by our government.
