Renewable Energy Update

Down under they are taking the largest step possible when it comes to renewable energy for their nations citizens. Big steps like this are needed to slow the progression of global warming according to many scientists around the world from CO2 spewing power plants.

SYDNEY (Reuters) - Australia plans to build the world's largest solar power station with an output of 1000 megawatts in a A$1.4 billion (US$1.05 billion) investment, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said on Sunday.

The plant would have three times the generating capacity of the current biggest solar-powered electricity plant, which is in California, Rudd said during a tour of a power station.

Tender details will be announced later in the year, and successful bidders will be named in the first half of 2010. Rudd said the project was aimed at exploiting the country's ample sunshine, which he called "Australia's biggest natural resource."

Good for the Aussies! So what is in the works here in the United States? New York state is installing 100 megawatts of solar power generating units on its public buildings to advance towards its 45-15 goal. (45% renewable energy by 2015)

GE Energy is providing 74 of its 1.5 megawatt wind turbines for a project in LaSalle County, IL.with funds made available by President Obama and his stimulus plan. That will power 30,000 homes.

So. Cal. Edison announced a deal back in February with BrightSource Energy for the eventual construction of seven solar thermal power generating plants adding 1.3 GW of power to its portfolio. - ARS Technica

The Port of LA is working on its impressive 1.15 million square feet of solar power panels on many of its rooftops and structures. Enough solar panels to power 2,500 homes. - Press Telegram

Exelon and SunPower Corp announced the construction of an urban solar field on leased property on the south side of Chicago. 32,800 solar panels are going up to power 1,200 to 1,500 homes or the equivalent of taking 2,500 cars off the road. - Exelon

I think it would be fair to say that the renewable energy industry is smoking hot!

Bravo for the Australians. Investment in developing solar-power technology will pay off big in the next couple of decades too, since the developing countries where the demand for power will grow the most over that time are mostly in the tropics. Solar power should work well in India, Brazil, Thailand, the Philippines, and so on.

While I was researching this piece I was amazed at how many projects are going on all over America and the world Infidel. Blew me away so to speak. I wonder how much of an effect this boom is having on oil producing nations?

Will it be justified to say that Obama is in bed with "Big Energy"?
You know that big corporation GE who will be making money with Global Warming,Healthcare and let's not forget another branch of that "Big Business" NBC.

More the reason to start more drilling so we can supply our own fuel neccessary to run the solar plants.

It sounds to me that you have no clue as to what you are talking about and didn't read the freaking post Lisa. Did you actually read the post or are you all about sound bites? Give me a break honey and give me some common sense in your comments. This one sounded like you were hammered!

Hi,

It was a great post on "Renewable Energy Update".

We are aware that solar energy is not yet carefully conventional to the majority of people. Most of them consider that the technologies concerned in solar panel installation are not optimized sufficiently. In addition, they are not persuaded with this source of energy as there are only a small number of companies that stay active in the market to give solar power mounting systems for their customers.

So let's get this right. It's okay for Obama to fund a big corporation to put through all his "Global Warming" plans and they also do all the computer technology he wants for the healthcare system and in return he gets all the positive media being they also own NBC.

Like I sai sounds like Obam is in bed with big(okay maybe not energy)business.
And it does require fule to run these plants and tons of water. So while this is going to "save the plant" it is going to kill us.
