The Confused and Conflicted GOP 2.0

Hello Papamoka Readers! I want to talk about the strange goings-on in the GOP today, using Senator Arlen Specter and Rush Limbaugh as tools for our discussion. Let's just assume Specter is really a Republican. :)

I think they are very good examples of two very different, yet equally retarded, approaches to an evolving GOP electorate. Both represent a certain inertia within the party - neither seems to understand how to handle the changes going on around them.

Let's start with Rush Limbaugh, who we all know is known for his rude, insane remarks. It seems poignant he was caught this week being particularly insane while speaking to the Heritage Foundation. He joined the GOP leadership - and Justice Clarence Thomas - to JOKE about the recession. He spoke about how there is no recession if you want to work and make money - like him. He was more insensitive and insane than ever.

Incredibly, Limbaugh joked about the recession despite knowing that his fat paycheck is a big reason why his distribution partner Clear Channel - who pays almost all of his $400 million plus contract - had to layoff over 12% of its workforce. That's about 12,000 ditto-fed Americans. Most of the people in that audience knew it too, yet they still laughed and applauded. This type of GOP arrogance is outrageous! Limbaugh and his Heritage Foundation audience deserve scorn from the American people. Let's be honest, they are SCUM!

So, I want to use Limbaugh to represent one large segment of today's GOP. To me, he represents today's DEAF and DUMB Republicans. They may be numerous and vocal, but they are deaf and dumb by and large. They ignore the problems of today. They disregard claims that Americans are suffering. Take for example how Congressman Eric Cantor had to rename his "listening tour" this week a "teaching tour" after Limbaugh demanded it. Despite years of damage in their wake, this group of Republicans look to teach, or propagandize, not listen.

They also have many eccentricities. This is the crazy right that picks and chooses scientific evidence the way they pick and choose morality from the bible. This is part that says America is center-right, when all evidence suggests America is center-left. This is the part that sees tea-bagging as a movement, Sarah Palin as intelligent, hate speech as tough speech, dogs as cats and up as down. There's another way to describe this group, and that is the ends always justify the means. They are DEAF and DUMB, and capable of great damage. Oh yea, and Rush Limbaugh is their leader.

Now on to Arlen Specter. This week proves the man is a Republican. He may now be a Democrat, but he's still a Republican. So, what group does Specter represent? To me, they are the GREEDY SHEEP. They stay silent and avoid morality fights, while quietly fighting for power and wealth. George Bush disguised himself as a DEAF and DUMB Republican, but in reality he was a GREEDY SHEEP - or maybe a weird mixture.

They're the low-tax, leave-me-alone Republicans. They only want money and power, and morality is just a tool to manipulate the masses. In truth, this group doesn't give a rat's ass about the American people, or America. Gays, abortion, flag lapel pins and the like are nothing but wedge issues, to be used as blunt instruments to create division. They play chess with their power, and the American people are simply pawns in their game.

Interestingly, I think Barack Obama understands this group, and may beat them at their own game, but we'll have to wait and see.

They are "sheep" because they enjoy following a strong leader, or despot, as long as he or she leads them to money and power. As long as the Party waves the flag, keeps taxes low and projects power they're happy. Arlen Specter fits perfectly in this mode. His principles are all about money and power. He's a great example of a fiscally conservative, non-empathetic Republican. They're the your-on-your-own Republicans. Individualism and power at ALL COST!

The GREEDY SHEEP are also having trouble adapting to the changing electorate. I think Specter underestimated the importance of change in America today. I think the voters of Pennsylvania are more interested in new ideas and solutions than one old greedy sheep dog. Arlen Specter-like Republicans may be adapting slightly faster than Rush Limbaugh-like Republicans, but it's hard to see the difference. You might as well watch the grass grow.

I have to agree with ya bro. I've said it before and I'll say it again, you are one amazing political thought writer.

Rush and his crew have hijacked the GOP and that scares me to no end. It means isolation for moderates like myself that from time to time see a good point on the right side of the political spectrum, although not often.

You know, I have been reading alot about Rush lately and it has all been liberal slashing. Why are you liberals so afraid of him? You talk down about one of the only Pubys left that has the stuff to speak his mind. He says what people are thinking, a bit over the top at times I agree, but atleast he says it. Unlike the liberal radio or talk show hosts who bit their tongue and say nothing unless it slanders the GOP.

There is a recession, companies are laying people off by the bus load, but it isnt the GOP who is killing them after they have no jobs. Unemployment is flawed. At the end of the year after my wife had to collect unemployment after seperation from the military because she couldnt find work, we had to pay back so much money in taxes we got almost nothing back. Military paychecks, which are already too low, get taxed heavily as well and soldiers already have more than enough to deal with. Now they have to deal with living in a economy on a salary that doesnt give them enough to ever get ahead.

I don't know why I even bother, none of you liberals care. Its already pretold to all of you that Pubys are radicals, that we are the reason for everything that is wrong, that nothing we want or do is right. I defend this nation, I volunteered my life to defend our rights and freedoms, but so many of you just dont care. So many liberals lash out at the Puby party, when it is your own elected representatives who are dismantling the freedoms our forefathers gave us. I dont want war, nor do I want the country to splinter, but you liberals have drawn the line in the sand and the country is divided. Reap what you have sewn, you planted the seeds of dissent during the Bush administration, if a secession happens you can only blame yourselves.

Afraid of Limbaugh? No, we're laughing at him in astonishment (at least I am). As long as the Republicans keep kowtowing to him and people like him, they're no threat. He's openly calling on the remaining sane Republicans, like McCain and Powell, to follow Specter out of the party. He's shrinking the tent.

The day when some rational, centrist Republican leader finally Sister-Souljahs Limbaugh -- that will be the day when Republicans become a force to be concerned about again.

I bet if this were McCain's Administration the Media would be telling the truth about the state of the economy. How in 3 months we lost 2 million more jobs, gas prices keep going up and GM is doubling production in Mexico,China and Canada.
Nope they won't tell the ones who get their info from the MSM because like they said it is their job to help Obama succeed when it actually means make him look good(you know like a regular guy getting a burger)

Lisa is dead on. I have had my resume on the job market for over a year now, no jobs. But at least last year I got phone calls about potential jobs. Now, I don't even get those, I can't even find anyone who is hiring. The nObama strong economy doesnt seem to be so strong outside of his facade. It would be nice to have news that told the truth, didn't sugar coat it to make it seem nObama really has done something.

Frodo would like to remind a few transcribers that George W. Bush was President for eight months before 9/11. How many of you can now say that he was, by the same standard you have set for President Obama, responsible for not preventing the attack. Oh, but you'll never come back here will you Lisa? And for my comrade-in-arms, "Currahee" (or are you a cook?).

Death before dismount my friend. Armor all the way. 1 shot kill.

Terrorists are notorious for misinformation and for multi-planning. Even though we got hit at the Pentagon and Towers there could have been other attacks planned and stopped. The plane shot down had a target it never reached. There are so many what ifs out there its pointless to say Bush could have prevented anything.

As you probably guess I completely disagree wit you Dan, and agree with Infidel. We're not worried about Limbaugh. We're watching amazed that you guys believe him. The man is the worst propaganda machine in American history - followed by the FOX spin machine. Your characterization of him is completely wrong. He doesn't speak the truth. He pollutes the minds of millions of gullible Americans. He says what stupid people are thinking. You and others are foolish to believe him.

Regarding the economy, I have only one thing to say. EVERYTHING broken in today's economy is the result of Republican leadership. All attempts to claim otherwise are based on smoke and mirrors. Your GOP efforts to rewrite history, along with the Bush Legacy Project, will do down in flames. As you guys like to say all the time, let's wait to see the judgement of history. Michael

I couldn't resist but to write a post on the downturn of the current GOP that IS NOT the Democrats fault. When you commit suicide then it is just that suicide. Politically, that is what the GOP is allowing to happen to their own party and I don't blame party members being pissed. If it was happening over in the Democrat Party then I would be just as pissed and I was for EIGHT LONG, PAINFUL years.

I agree PapaM. Perhaps like Democrats in the 70s (before I was smart enough to know, but at least born :), the GOP needs to regroup. They need new ideas. Even more important, as somebody who voted for Reagan right out of high school, they need new ideas that excite the younger generation. :) Michael

It's funny how the GOP and it's minions will say it might take decades to adequately assess Bush's legacy, but those same people have already pronounced Obama's presidency a resounding failure.

Just how does that work, I wonder?

Michael, you might be pleased to know that President Obama is pushing or passed, not sure, funding for worker training and higher education for all Americans on unemployment benefits. Go to school, become a better asset for America and the nation benefits with the thirty or fourty years you work after graduating. Make sense to me. Some folks would call it Socialism.

Zigar, you are not accounting for daylight savings time with the GOP assesment of President Obama. No wait a second, or an hour, your right. Never mind. Duh is me! LOL!

#1 So if liberals are listening to a radical liberal talk show host, they are naive and stupid? Because I see that as your biased that only your views and thoughts are right and that mine are wrong and insane. Hmm, always the one side of the dice liberal comments.
#2 I never said the economy was a government fault, its being hurt by the government. But as I have said, and I dont exclude myself, the people are the cause of alot of the economic problems. Our laize-faire government stance to the economy supported it, and then the government being in the pocket of major corporations continued the trend. But it all starts with us, the consumer who feed the machine.

They need new ideas, perhaps more liberal ideas? Perhaps more ideas that are pro big government? That take rights from the states? That ignores local government further?

So many people say "8 long hard years" or "a mistake of the American people for 8 years" but why did noone do anything? Why is it all the lazy people can talk and talk and talk, but do nothing in action? I was an advocate to oust Clinton, I was in a few protests and I was fresh into my teens. That man LIED to Americans and got caught. He LIED to us all, and we were going to impeach him. I served in the military under Bush orders, because of liberal bureaucrats we had our hands tied more and more every day while fighting a war. I caught flak from civilians that I was taking orders from a dictator, who was VOTED into office. So you can all cry war crimes until your blue in the face, but if you didnt DO anything during his reign, then you are a sad excuse for a protester/activist/voter. If you havent noticed, I am against our government now and I voice that all the time. I go to all my local government meetings, I participate in votes, and I get off my couch to go out and actively participate in protests. What did you do when you hated the government?

Yes socialism is right Papa. Unless you havent really read about how that sort of government works, its where the government does everything to take care of its people. Everything meaning, programs that give you training for jobs, jobs that will continue your tribute to the government, which will turn around and do the same with your family, and children. A system where everything is taken care of through government control; ie: medical coverage, big corporation control, federal programs. All of this paid for by your taxes. Our nation was founded on the fact of the people are the nation, the government keeps us safe. It changed over the generations so much that now the government is the nation and we the people are spectators and victims. We are their income, we are no longer their voice. Its like being a child to a parent that only makes more problems for itself and we have to keep giving over our money to fund those problems. But now what you all want is to hand over money to the government to finance everything you do....if you want a higher education to get a job, go out and get one. If you cant afford it, then get rid of that junk you think you need to survive. Or better yet do like I did to get my college education, do something for everyone else and join a service for a few years.

Dan,

You are pissing me off and you are one comment away from being banned from this site. In your last comments you have gone out of your way to not discuss the issue of the post but attack everyone and called them stupid for having an opposing opinion to yours. Myself included that didn't even write the post! If you want to progress down this road then your URL will be banned permanently from Papamoka.

SECOND WARNING!

Hey Papa, I just follow the same trend the Micheal Boh and others set. Bash the opposition party with little concern of that their opinion counts.

I get heated, I admit that, but I am within my right. I get force all the liberal talk day in and day out. I get called so many different names by liberals just because I volunteered to serve in the US Army. I get my opinions and believes set on fire and urinated on because they don't fall in line with liberal ideas. So why is it that I can read all the down talk to the GOP but I am not allowed to voice the right's opinion of the matter? Why is it that your side is allowed to hack and slash my side, but I am not allowed to openly defend it? Are you that offended that not everyone is blindly behind your wizard of Oz nObama? Is it offensive to see that there are still free thinking people out there who openly dispute the government at all? I am on the right, but I disagree with our government all the time. I even break military regulations to voice my opinion that everything our government has become is opposition to the Constitution. And now with your people in office even MORE government power is being granted. And you want to ban me from your site? Think that is going to stop the voice of the just and right?

The governed shall never be silenced by the government. We are the people, we control this country. But your party is allowing our cornerstones to be destroyed in favor of my socialistic ideas and policies, in direct conflict and violation of our Constitution. I pity liberals, your bringing an era on yourselves that will be remembered forever. You liberals are going to cause an irreversible path of destruction and separation that will echo in history.

So ban me, silence the opposing side. Show me that you fear me and my opinions THAT much. Prove me right the liberals want the entire country to be 1 party. Show me that you don't believe in opposition.
