You Don’t Know What Cold Is

I’ve always considered myself a hearty New Englander. Poor weather conditions come with the turf of living in the Northeast of America. On the bright side, if you wait a minute the weather will change. All but one of my six brothers and sisters immigrated to Florida for the warmth and yes they do call when blizzards hit and brag about being out on the patio.

We had a small snow storm the other night and I was boxing up the fluffy white stuff into very compact snow balls to ship to my hateful siblings so they can enjoy our pain and suffering. I cleverly installed a launching device to throw whatever is left of my snowball in the box by the time it hits West Palm Beach right in their smug face when they open the care package.

Then I came across this on Yahoo from the AP on what the folks in central Alaska are putting up with. 60 below ZERO! No wonder there is less than a million folks living up there! The rest of them froze to death! God bless them for their stamina for not packing up the truck and moving to Arizona, Texas, Nevada, or even Florida where the temperatures are always moderately warm in comparison. So now I don’t feel so bad when it is 22 degrees out and the heating system kicks in. At sixty below zero I would be busting up the kitchen table and cooking it for heat in the friging oven. National Weather Service meteorologist Andy Brown said high pressure over much of central Alaska has been keeping other weather patterns from moving through. New conditions get pushed north or south while the affected area faces daily extremes.

"When it first started almost two weeks ago, it wasn't anything abnormal," Brown said.

"About once or twice every year, we get a good cold snap. But, in this case, you can call this an extreme event. This is rare. It doesn't happen every year."

Temperatures sit well below zero in the state's various regions, often without a wisp of wind pushing down the mercury further.

I don’t know about you but I get the chills just reading 60 below zero? How the hell do you insulate a home against that kind of extreme cold? The walls of the house would need to be eight feet thick and filled with the stuff to keep the cold out. How many heating systems do you need to keep up with keeping the house at a comfortable temperature? God bless the hearty folks of Alaska, I will stop bitching about the cold in New England. I'll be tossing an extra comforter on the bed just thinking about this story.

McCain Abandons NM, CO, IA

John McCain with two weeks left to go is consolidating political strategy and prematurely conceding New Mexico, Colorado, and Iowa according to CNN. Prior to McCain chucking Michigan the bird he was within a couple of points of Obama but they folded up the offices and boogied out. Poll numbers went through the roof for Obama after that closing up shop and Obama has held well over a 50% lead on McCain.

The moving trucks and plywood from the McCain campaign is out and rolling through New Mexico, Colorado, and Iowa and they are bailing out on these states. Fend for yourself, hunt and peck, we will call you, don’t call us is the message to these states. They are not alone. New Mexico is on the death watch for Republicans and the McCain campaign too! Check out what CNN and John King is saying!

What is also interesting is that before picking Sarah Palin, John McCain had no campaign offices or staff in Alaska… NONE!

Bristol Palin’s Real Babies Dad?

The young man presented at the RNC Convention just might not be the real father of Bristol Palin's baby! I don't make this stuff up. I'm just telling you what I find on the internet that I think might be of interest to you as a reader of Papamoka Straight Talk.

This is pissing me off and if this ends up being a hoax I will fully apologize to the Palin family in a post here at Papamoka Straight Talk. Politics is not always about the issues as Rick Davis and many other people in the McCain campaign for President would like to have us believe in their talking points. The latest is that the father of Bristol Palin’s baby is an African American from Los Angeles visiting his uncle in Anchorage, Alaska earlier this summer. According to him, the family does not want him to have anything to do with Bristol or the baby and that is the latest on the Sarah and Bristol Palin Baby Gate story.

Conservative and Christian right wingers are probably going nuts over this issue of a right wing VP pick that now has a teenage daughter pregnant out of wedlock. If they are not, then they face the hypocrisy that they generously poor on their political opponents where teen pregnancy just seems to happen simply because those unwashed deviants on the left have no moral values. Damn you Democrat Rabbits! Now isn’t Sarah Palin the same candidate today in the same super star role that Barack Obama was bashed about by the McCain campaign just a couple of weeks ago? Today, Sarah Palin has her own laundry to wash now. This sort of event, teen pregnancy, has been happening for thousands of years but somehow it has become an issue simply because of the better than thou and more righteous “Family Values” of the Republican party over the last decade. When teen age children that are poor and their parents vote Democrat it is a lack of parental interaction, lack of educating your young about the consequences of a teen pregnancy, and lack of out right moral values. When it happens to one of their own children of the moral majority thought process, it is a family privacy moment to contemplate all of our sins to welcome a new life into the world. Double standard if you ask me but I’m just a mouth breathing Catholic with five daughters. And I love each and everyone one of them!

I’m going to say right up front, I doubt the validity of this young mans claim in this video on You Tube as being the father of Bristol Palin’s child. I’m tending to think that he is looking for celebrity status just on the fact that he is trying to boost his own music industry career. Over at You Tube they have his video and if he is lying then Bristol Palin should sue his ass for all of the proceeds his future holds. If he isn’t lying? That is another question for another day. Nobody will ever know the truth here till the baby is born. If Levi is the father or whoever is the father does not matter. It has nothing to do with where John McCain stands or for that matter where Barack Obama stands on the issues. This video just points out how far from the issues that people will run to or from to not face the truth that America needs change. This issue has nothing to do with McCain or Obama! It is a family issue and none of our damn business! But!!! Big old hairy BUTT, if the kid is telling the truth, then where does that leave the McCain-Palin ticket if they pranced out for display purpose at the Republican National Convention a young man that was just there for the cameras?

Can we get back to Health Care, Housing Crisis and the War in Iraq? Can we focus on the real issues in this political race for President or do we have to play gossip over the back fence for a couple of weeks more?

God help this young man if he is lying. If he is lying, he has no idea how many laws he broke with this You Tube video. For the record, I thought he sounded pretty sincere until he pointed out that he was a musician working on a new career and then spouted off on being an Obama Democrat. I’ll let the National Enquirer look into the rest of the details of this unraveling tale.

Democrats do not need to lie to win this election.

McCain Snubs Alaska

While the McCain for President is throwing up it’s own version of George Bush politics and smoke and mirrors, over at the Obama campaign they are actually talking to people where most think one vote does not count. 3 Electoral votes do not matter in the big picture. Or do they? All the folks up in Alaska are American citizens and the only political campaign talking to them is the Obama campaign for President. A campaign based on an entire America inclusive in the future of our nation. Even in the great state of Alaska. Isn't this election based on ALL Ameican's having an opinion on who will be President? McCain obviously does not think Alaskan's are important enough to campaign for their vote.

While Senator McCain has been building his campaign on what President Bush is all about, been all about, and morphed into a junior Bush, Obama and his campaign is talking to the people of Alaska! Alaska, way the hell up north, you can not get to all of the people other than by plane but the Obama people are making the effort to talk to the actual people that vote. Kudos go out to the Obama people that includes ALL Americans in the decision process for our President! If you think Obama is just about Obama then ask an Alaskan who is actually seeing campaigning in their state for President? Obama and his message is about change and that includes all American’s! Alaskans for Obama: A Rare Democratic Push in the Last Frontier

ANCHORAGE -- In what might be the fullest realization of Barack Obama's pledge to run hard in parts of the country largely untouched by presidential campaigning, the Democrat's Alaska operation is making plans for organizers to hopscotch the state's vast and sparsely populated interior by bush plane, knocking on doors in remote outposts for their candidate.

"Go around, put up signs, shake some hands, see some of the important people in the village," said state representative and professional pilot Woodie Salmon (D), describing his own campaign tactics in a legislative district that includes 94 villages, 70 of which can be reached only by air. "Get things stirred up and leave again."

Conservative and quirky, Alaska last went for a Democratic presidential candidate 44 years ago. No nominee from either party has even visited since Richard Nixon's journey to glad-hand in Anchorage on the last weekend of the 1960 campaign, a stop that some argue cost him the razor-thin election.

Snip and tuck important facts…

While the John McCain campaign has yet to open an office anywhere in the state, Obama has dispatched dozens of paid staffers here over the past month; the latest batch arrived over the weekend. It is assigning field coordinators in each of the state's 40 legislative districts and has been buying television ad time since June.

"The campaign is treating Alaska as a key battleground state," said Jeff Giertz, the campaign's communications director in Alaska, who arrived in Anchorage from Iowa, the scene of Obama's first victory of the Democratic nominating contest. - Washington Post

John McCain is not in Alaska because they only have three Electoral College votes! Something he is counting on as a given in the pocket win. History is on his side but times change and so do generations of people. McCain is wrong in counting Alaska as a given when the majority of citizens have no access to health care or even dream of health insurance. I can’t speak for the people of Alaska but if the people running for the office of President don’t even open up even one political office in your entire state, then don’t you think they don’t care about you as a person, a voter, an American?

Follow the money and you see who the real candidate for President in the Republican Party is. Alaska does not matter, isn’t even worth a dollar in campaign dollars raised. Follow the money from the Obama campaign and you see that he is about inclusion of all American voters. Even if you have to take a plane to reach a village in the land that is the last true frontier.

How do you think you would feel as a voter if John McCain and his campaign for President looked at your state of Texas, North Carolina, Colorado, Virginia, Montana, North and South Dakota in the same red state perspective and snubbed your state like he is doing so with Alaska? McCain is playing the numbers of Bush and his election, he has forgotten what and who he was, lost his way and is just winging it in the states he thinks are worth the gamble for his campaign dollars. Other than three electoral votes, Obama sees change that is possible and that change includes the great state of Alaska. After all they are American's too!

Every Alaskan has a vote, why is John McCain not catering to Alaskan voters? The answer to that is just three electoral votes.
