One thing is certain, this little girl is going to have to grow up faster than I'm sure she ever intended.Papamokahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14611162290397820224noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10249940.post-4875503487808253682008-09-02T22:29:00.000-05:002008-09-02T22:29:00.000-05:00My suspicion is that Bristol Palin "chose" to have...My suspicion is that Bristol Palin "chose" to have this baby in much the same way that a man with a gun to his head "chooses" to hand his wallet to a mugger. That is, the conversation around the kitchen table went something like this...

B: Mom, I'm pregnant.
S: Congratulations!
B: But... but... I'm not ready to have a baby! I'm just a high school student!
S: So... (frostily) what are you saying?
B: Could I... uhm, maybe... end it?
S: (even more frostily) You do that and it'll be the last time you see the inside of this house. Nobody in this family will ever talk to you again, nobody in our church will ever talk to you again, it will be just as if you never existed. Do you understand me, young lady? You do that, you're dead to this family.
B: (blubbering) What do I do?
S: You do the right thing. You marry the baby's father, and we support you until you're old enough to support yourself. So it's your choice. Do the right thing, or you're dead to this family. Do you understand?
B: (downcast) Yes mommy.

Now, granted, I wasn't there at that kitchen table. But I've been second-hand witness to this scene at other holy roller homes. First of all, holy roller homes try to cut off their children from secular doings or anything that might lead to independent living. They try to make their children dependent upon the church for all their friendships and clubs and everything, and dependent upon the family for everything else. Second of all, they threaten their children with being cut off from everything they know if they make a choice that offends the precious "family values" of the parental units. It's "my way or the highway", and these children are not equipped emotionally or otherwise to take advantage of the "or the highway" clause.

Anyhow, that's how it works in most holy roller families. I don't know if that's how it worked in Governor Palin's family. But it wouldn't surprise me.

-- Badtux the Bible Belt PenguinBadTuxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01345749557330760251noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10249940.post-49408379137765132582008-09-02T13:44:00.000-05:002008-09-02T13:44:00.000-05:00Obama himself, as you acknowledge, has asked every...Obama himself, as you acknowledge, has asked everyone who supports him to back off the subject of Palin's children and just drop it. Isn't that enough? Do you think that wallowing in this filth will advance Obama's cause in any way?

Obama's statement on this issue made me feel more respect for him than just about anything since the campaign started. It's unfortunate that many who claim to be in his corner don't seem to share his evident desire to restore at least a minimum of decency to the cesspit our politics has become.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
